This book doesn't have enough pages.
There is one chapter here named "Never ending story". THAT'S what this book should have been!
I just wanted to read it, and read it, and read it, didn't really care if that meant too many stories for the characters, I'd read it if they'd suddenly decided to move on Mars and catch aliens!
The writing is simply brilliant! And just for that this book deserves 5 stars. The characters and the story - fantastic! Loved them both, and loved the story, every second of it. I didn't want it to end (well I said that already, sorry
).
The story
One day, while sitting at a diner, Austin notices a pair of bunny slippers. Then he notices the guy wearing them. Then he notices his face, his eyes, his hair, his body, his lips, and again, his freaking bunny slippers. And THEN he thinks he just might be gay. But that's impossible, right? You don't suddenly turn gay at age 26 at the sight of some bunny slippers and a freakishly gorgeous guy wearing them, right? RIGHT? Hmm. Well, of course, the logical explanation would be that he has a bunny-slipper sexual fetish, or that the guy is responsible for turning him gay all of the sudden
That was the birth of an obsession, well, two actually, one for the slippers, one for the guy
What didn't help with his messed up love life was having a fiance, and working on a case that's directly involved with Mr. Bunny Slippers' family and former lover

I love that guy :D He's so messed up
He's working for the police, but aiming for the FBI. He's very intelligent, doesn't do lying, he says the first things that pop up to his mind, and is very good at reading people.
After meeting Bunny Slippers, he can't get him out of his head, so he begins to question his sexuality. That leads to some dark memories (oh that was just terrible, Jesse and all
) and him finally realising who he is.
He has such a funny mind and I loved his inner monologue :D
The scenes with Peter :D excellent :) Even though, most of the time he doesn't even know what to do with him, they both send mixed signals, they're both messed up and complicated, and they both don't want to fall in love, but of course...
My fav scene with him was when he was trying to wash Peter's hands and Peter kept trying to tell him he was clean. Heart. Broke. Mine. Totally.
I think he finally realised that Peter was more than a whore and that he kept saying it just to put a distance between them.
Oh and another one, when he kept telling Peter to ask him for money.
Bunny Slippers/Peter
Taken from the streets and adopted by a former cop, Peter is now the owner of the diner Austin keeps stalking. For years now, he's been taking care of Cai and Darryl, the other two kids the cop adopted, and they've had a tough life, mostly Peter and Darryl working as prostitutes to get the meds for Cai, who's bipolar. He doesn't know what Austin wants with him, and thinks that he, like everyone else before him, only sees his looks, wants fim for nothing but sex. So he propositions himself, and Austin, obsessed as he is, accepts

I've read your story Shattered Glass. Well, I wanted to know what the fuss is all about, and…holy cow, was I ever impressed! Dani Alexander has written an amazingly good book. Give him my best please. I do hope he'll continue to write such compelling and entertaining stories in the future.
I've been in a very serious book slump for a rather long time and decided to do a re-read of your fantabulous story Shattered Glass. Guess what? I'm back in my happy place and wanted to quote the whole darn book! I feel so crazy good. Fantastic. Awesome. Yes, yes, yes! *high fives* I'm sorry for my little outburst. *sheepish smile* I'll be back to acting demurely stat.
Okey-dokey, let's get down to business, my dear. What the heck is wrong with you? I mean do you really have a bunny slipper fetish and not a c*ck sucking fixation? Think it over. My best guess is you're addicted to both. Do you remember when your fantasies were filling with images of Peter's mouth on naked things of yours? You were thinking about naked things with a guy. It was pretty surreal, wasn't it? Of course at that time you were so not gay. After all, you don't go twenty-six years before the gay gene suddenly just kicks in. As if. Austin, my dear, you were in complete denial.
Let's talk about Peter now. I didn't particularly like him in the beginning of your story. Although the more I read he somehow grew on me and, in the end, I even fell for him. Besides, all that matters is that you love him. When you're happy then I'm happy, too. You didn't want him to waste his life busing tables. You were obsessed with his freckles, his bunny slippers and his lips. Yeah, Peter was a witness and possible person of interest and you were dating him, a whore, *gasp* while working on the vice squad. I'd say that's a pretty bad call. But then again, Peter made you incredibly horny all.The.F*cking.Time. Eventually you got it that Peter wasn't a whore anymore. Oh, and let's not forget your fiancée, Angelica, who didn't want to talk to you anymore. It was kinda understandable, wasn't it? Dear Peter is playing you like the Philharmonic's conductor and he alternated between being hostile, affectionate, murderous, manipulative and horny. Let's not forget the either. He made you think. When you slowly peeled your life apart, it really helped you to realize how lonely and afraid must have been. A dawning of understanding washed over you. It sure as heck was a real eye-opener to you. Peter was the that could have been and some little piece of you believed the universe gave you a do-over. Thus, was I ever glad when you recognized and accepted your sexual orientation. Finally you were fully embracing the gay in all its glory.
"You want to have sex in a men's bathroom?"
"Huh? You said…Wasn't it a signal? Your coming in here? I read online that gay men did that."
"Yah, int he 1960's, Austin. Or at a Republican National Convention. Not on the first date in the bathroom of a restaurant. In this century.
"Good?" Peter laughed, placing his hands on the floor at either side of my hips and leaning forward to my ear. "Hope you took notes. There will be an oral quiz later."
"Notes? Fuck. I don't think I could repeat that if I had a video and step-by-step instructions."
Video…mm.
Although you still believed that you were unlovable. Austin, you are so f*cked up, and Peter was going to break you. That said, this special moment did come and finally you broke. It wasn't a visible fracture, and you didn't sob or explode into anguish. You didn't give in to your vomitus urge that came from the burst of self-loathing either. Yet you just shattered nonetheless.
Your father and mother are hypocritical, abandoning, and homophobic assholes. Gah. You cracked me up, Austin, when you told your father about your ho-mo-seckshuul boyfriend. OMG, Austin Glass the Homo-extraordinaire Strikes Again! By the way, I loved your favorite term Butt Pirate.
I really adored Angelica, your fiancée. Oops, I'm sorry, ex-fiancée. She's a very kind and uncomplicated woman. Even though you hurt her by being gay, she took it in stride eventually. I know you are grateful to have such a wonderful and understanding friend.
Fact is, the cast of secondary characters is interesting and really great. Granted, I'm not very fond of Darryl, the prick, even though I enjoyed his bold mouth. Eeny meeny miney homo…

"I said I'd had enough of this shit, you stupid stubborn ass."

I liked the bipolar and hypomanic Cai. I'm not sure yet if I'll be joining the Cult of Cai, though. Besides, I don't think he's the next coming of Christ either. On the other hand, I have to admit that Cai is a very special and complex person. You know I think that Riley is super-duper sexy and the age difference between these two guys does intrigue me all the more.
I laughed my ass off when you found this strange creature called cat.
The cat? Looked maimed, or burned. Her random tufts of fur were indiscriminately stuck between bits of pink skin. It was like a four-year-old had used dust bunnies from under the bed to create a collage of fur on a burlap canvas. The cat reeked. The thing was a walking biohazard of stale tuna seeped in sun-soured milk.

"Dogs are okay, but I don't like cats."

Do you know why I like dogs and not cats? Because when you're talking to dogs, they don't walk away in order to rim themselves."

Austin, could you do me a favor? Do tell Dani that I loved Shattered Glass. I really dig his writing. It felt like a breath of fresh air and I had so much fun devouring your entertaining story. Dani’s writing is full of passion, that’s for sure, and I think he’s a man who loves to laugh because I really liked to indulge in his well-placed humor. Having said that, I’m pretty sure that Dani doesn’t take himself too seriously either. As it was, your story provided so many heartfelt laughs. I love it when a book can make me smile again and again and yet at the same time I really dug the emotional and sad moments, too. Do you want to know what else I did like? I adored the well-drawn and complex characters, the fantastic and hilarious dialogue, and the crazy-good plot. Boy, there was so much stuff going on here! Also, there were some nice twists that I didn’t see coming, and last but not least I really liked the hot and intimate smexy times. Austin, I hope you do appreciate it that I can’t think of anything that I disliked. I assure you that’s no mean feat because the more books I read the more critical I become. For once no lamenting at all. Be happy!

Austin is working for the FBI, he is about to get married and has a “perfect” life. Enter Peter, aka Rabbit (aka Bunny Slippers). He is the hottest red haired guy ever with the most beautiful blue eyes in the world. What, you don’t trust me? Ok, let Austin explain how blue Peter’s eyes are:
Blue eyes. No, not just blue, blue like glacial waters, like romantic poems, like heavens and moonstones. Cornflower blue. And-
Blue like romantic poems? What the ever-living fuck?
Well, as you can imagine, after their first encounter Austin reconsiders his sexuality but he is sure that he is NOT gay. First, because he was engaged to a woman. Second, because he masturbated to images of women. Third, because people don’t wake up gay… and a lot of more stupid reasons…
So what is the best idea he has? Yes, he goes to talk to Peter and tell him he is NOT gay. OMG! Austin seriously needs help! LOL

“Congratulations, would you like a medal?”
“I already have a medal. For bravery, not for being gay. I think you made me gay.”
“I made you gay? Is that better or worse than the person who made you stupid?”
At this point I must say I love reading about people discovering their sexuality , I am kinda tired of people saying ‘hey, he is 20, he should have realized before’. Come on!
Austin has a hard time accepting he is gay so he decides to call his sexuality ”bunny-slipper-sexual”
I loved the way Austin was totally attracted to Peter, like he could not stop thinking about him all day long. *SIGH*
”I like you. Even though you’re probably a criminal and are going to get me thrown off the force. And you kicked me. Broke my nose. Made me gay and refuse to kiss me”
I really want to quote the whole damn book because I bookmarked almost every single page! I mean, this is a perfectly written book, I loved loved loved all smart ass comments, it was HILARIOUS, SUPER DIVERTIDO!
And yes, I agree with Austin, Thursdays suck BIG TIME!

Days go by and Austin’s feelings get stronger because even though Peter looks like a criminal (or at least his family is) he is also a very special guy who takes care of his family. He is not selfish, he never asks for anything for him, they only thing he wants is protecting his family, specially his brothers Cai & Darryl.

Austin realizes Peter is really a good guy and decides to help him no matter what, even if he loses his job…
Even the road to Disneyland has potholes

Austin & Luis, his co-worker, are investigating a human trafficking operation and Peter is involved in the story so Austin has a hard time to decide if he should be professional or if he should follow his instincts and support Peter and his family (and animals lol).
At the same time he has to deal with his father, who obviously won’t accept him being gay (which is not a problem because Austin doesn’t care).
Funny thing is his father and his ex-fiancee will end up helping Peter and his brothers to prove their innocence.
I don’t really want to spoil their love story and the investigation but I want everyone to read this AH-MAZING & hilarious book, I loved loved loved it! Come on guys, give it a try ;)

The writing is brilliant. The story riveting. The characters captivating.. What we are blessed with is a truly wonderful novel and a sheer delight to read ~ no matter the cost, this book is a gift and I thank you Dani Alexander for sharing it with us...
This is the funniest book I have read this year, (crying laughing and totally in love with Austin) Your humour Dani is so seamlessly woven throughout the fabric of the book - and incorporates the romance and the crime thriller combined. This isn't a romance with a little action, or a thriller with a sprinkling of passion... it is simply the whole package, perfectly put together, with an epilogue that leaves us salivating for the next instalment... *wink* *wink*
My review would never do justice to this book, it really is one of those you have to read to experience, to understand what a truly fabulous read it is. A friend of mine recently accused me of writing novella length reviews - If I put into words the wonders contained within, never mind the copious amounts of quotes I highlighted... this would be novel length! So I will endeavour to keep it short!!
We meet Austin in a dingy dinner... Dazed and in a trance, totally captivated by the vision before him, like a diamond in the sky this boy before him shone so bright he was transfixed by his beauty.
Model beautiful, thick red hair and freckles, lots of piercing's, tattoos... Oh, and not forgetting the blue eyes!! This was the bus boy - and he was wearing bunny slippers!?!
Austin doesn't know this boy, has never seen him before... he is confused, perplexed and having a major identity crisis! He couldn't understand how he could be having sexual thoughts and feelings for a MAN!... after all "he was NOT gay" So Austin does the only sensible thing he could think of - he ask's his friends!?! Then comes to the the lightbulb conclusion that it really isn't his fault... Oh no. It was Bunny slippers - he made him gay... there was no other explanation!?!
Austin Glass is outrageously honest, to the point where most would think he is either joking or very rude, when in fact, he is just speaking his mind!... it's as though the words come tumbling out before his brain engages and there is a child like innocence behind his reasoning! His life is a dilemma... and like a petulant child he needs attention and he will stamp his feet 'till he gets it! Austin may be 26 years old but... he has the mental age of a hormonal teenager! Selfish in his opinions and no diplomacy skills WHATSOEVER!
In the middle of all the shenanigans with Bunny slippers, Austin is investigating a human trafficking operation. So when the object of his obsession is thrown into the frame... his emotions are torn between trust and accusation and tossed back and forth between hope and despair!
Bunny Slippers, does have a name... Peter Cotton or Rabbit as he is affectionately know as by his brothers Cai and Darryl. They are his life and reason for living, their welfare is paramount - especially Cai, who at 16 suffers from bipolar and depends on both Peter and Darryl, who in turn prostitute themselves to care for him... and, just to survive!
The banter between Peter and Austin is hysterical... real laugh out loud funny! Peter keeps trying to push Austin away at every opportunity, emotionally distancing himself, but even open hostility is no deterrent for Austin.... He WANTS Peter. His body knows it and now even his mind is embracing it. YES!... he IS gay!
The relationship between Austin and Peter is a slow burner... with all the baggage Peter carries, he is stoically guarding himself from pain and any attraction... with his first responsibility to Cai. He is attracted to Austin but uses sex to avoid any emotional issues, where Austin just uses his humour to deflect his fixation for the object of his devotion... Peter! Austin also has to deal with issues from his past, his father is a complete bastard and bigot as was his Grandfather, his mother is AWOL in Europe and has been for years and he is supposed to be getting married in 8 weeks!... oh, and to top it all off he also has a commitment phobia!
Where Austin's life is an open book for all the world to see, and he is quite happy to let them, Peters life is hidden beneath complex layers. These layers are slowly peeled away, cleverly only allowing us to see glimpses of the man beneath and the turbulent and traumatic journey that brought him and his brothers into to Austin's world and the holy mess they now find themselves in. Peter might be a whore with steely resolve, but tiny sparks of emotion peak out of the cracks and give Austin hope... as he also sees the compassionate and strong man who cares for his brother... the man with a good heart!
This book is not all fun and games with Austin and Peter, they find themselves caught up in the investigation, there is murder, drugs and a plethora of other vices turning all their lives upside down. There are a whole host of characters in this book all of them well developed and smoothly integrated in to the tale.
Peters brother Cai is such a great character, I believe he deserves a mention... especially when the next book is focusing on him. He has a very damaged past and suffers with his bipolar, however the beauty and innocence of his heart glare at you through the pages, he is just so cute and expressive only wanting to please and I just wanted to delve in there and give him a hug!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Dani Alexander for letting us enjoy this novel through the eyes of Austin Glass... being in his mind with all of his inner musings, turmoil's, confusions and epiphanies was a joy. I am sure I now have permanent wrinkles from the constant grin on my face throughout this book. I was as captivated and enthralled by him... as he was with Bunny Slippers!
This is an excellent book... please do not wait to read it as I did! It is a true gem... read it now!

~~BUDDY READ WITH MISH & CORY~~
I apologize in advance for what I know is a ranty review, not my usual style, but this is most definitely a case of Everyone-Loved-It-But-Me.
This book was SO. DAMN. LONG.
Nearly 400 pages of repetitive, tedious babble, as narrated by Austin Glass, who is either a sociopath or just a really big fucking asshole:
PRIORITIES
Austin is a selfish, spoiled, self-indulgent cheater. His “love” interest is Peter, whom Austin refers to as a “whore” throughout most of the book.
Mind you, Peter’s no gem:
WHO KNEW?
This book meandered and dragged. There were numerous typos and editing issues (e.g., quote above).
The romance, if you can call it that, took a backburner to the crime/mystery/drama/angst, whatever the fuck you want to call the plot that strained all credibility.
The, uh, sweetness about killed me:
YOU DON'T SAY?
The tone was full of snark and what I think was supposed to pass as humor. I just found it gauche and mean-spirited.
When the MCs are unlikeable and the plot is boring as fuck with an unbelievable Oh-I’m-actually-gay revelation, and brimming with overly involved mothers and too many secondary characters to shake a stick at, what’s left?
Yeah, not much.
Then there’s the little cliffy at the end, a perfect little set-up for book 2. That shit just gives me a headache.

After starting the Reading Challenge, I filled my "To Read" list with tons of crime thrillers, cozy mysteries and historical fiction novels. I've switched back and forth between the cozy and the grisly murders to my fascination with history and the complexities of family dramas... after 20 novels, I found myself wanting something different. I'm not one to read romance stories though I do enjoy quintessential "chick flick" films... either way, I stumbled upon Shattered Glass mostly because that was a title I was considering for a family drama in which I had started the outline [now I think I'll call it "Watching a Glass Shatter." I digress... back to Dani Alexander's "Shattered Glass."
After reading some reviews and the love affair with bunny slippers (don't ask, you have to read it to understand), I thought to myself "this one may have potential" and ordered it online. When it arrived, I was just finishing the new Harry Potter book (talk about a vastly different world) but got to it the next day. It's about 350 pages long, so I expected about 5 to 6 hours of a read for me, so probably 5 days given that I have about an hour a day where I have time to read. Perhaps because it was a weekend, or maybe I chose to make more time because of how engaging it was, it only took me 2 days.
Mind you, I have nothing to compare it to when it comes to either romance or gay fiction, having read very little of either, yet it feels like it's at the top of its category. It had mystery and intrigue, crime and thrills, some romance (well, mostly sex) and very bold characters that bordered on obnoxius and charming all at the same time (in a good way). I could never be best friends with either of the main characters as they would eventually annoy the hell out of me, but anyone would be blessed to have a friendship with either Austin or Peter given their intensity and committment to learning about each other.
Could something like this ever really happen? Seems far-fetched, but I could be naive on the subject. Would someone really give up their entire career given the risks being taken? I suppose if they wanted to get out of their job, yes, but Austin seemed to love his job. It is fiction though, so I hold my disbelief given the amazing characters that are created and the sarcastic but real dialogue contained throughout the whole story.
If you're looking for something with some spice, intrigue, passion and witty humor, definitely give it a read. If you are a bit faint of heart when it comes to this kinda stuff, it may be too much for a first read! I'll definitely read the second book in the series and will probably add it to the lineup for later this year after an Agatha Christie story and a cozy about a librarian who solves crimes.

5 Fantastic and Funny Stars!!!!!
Before I go on and on about how much I loved this book, let me introduce you to these two guys...
DETECTIVE AUSTIN GLASS
AND
PETER ‘RABBIT’
Austin is a twenty six year old detective, he is engaged to the beautiful Angelica, and on track to becoming an FBI agent. He is a trust fund baby, who has no relationship with his parents.

After days pass, he still can’t stop thinking about him. He can’t explain it, so he decides to confront the guy... It doesn’t go over too well...

“Congratulations. Would you like a medal?” “I already have a medal. For bravery, not for being gay. I think you made me gay.” “I made you gay? Is that better or worse than the person who made you stupid?”
Eventually, Austin comes to terms with his sexuality. But how will it ever work with these two? Austin is a cop, Peter is into some questionable things... The case Austin is working on complicates things even more. Peter is involved to some extent. Their relationship is complicated to say the least. They can’t trust each other, but they have this connection, this chemistry that can’t be denied. Austin doesn’t want to feel the way he does for Peter, but he can’t stop it.
This book was perfect! I mean the perfect combination of action, suspense, love, sex, drama, and it was so funny, I couldn’t stand it!!! There is a lot going on in the plot- many twists and turns, things I didn’t see coming, which I am not going to go into as I feel that it would spoil the story- but there is some criminal activity, mystery, investigations etc. on top of Austin and Rabbit’s story.
Austin is my favorite type of character. Sarcastic, a bit arrogant, can be an asshole but is also sweet, sexy and funny as hell! It’s been a while since a character has made me laugh as much as this guy did! I absolutely adored him from the start! Peter took me a while to warm up to, at the beginning of the book- I wasn’t sure how I felt about him, but I ended up loving him too. Peter is a complex character, he has a crazy past, but he is a loving and completely devoted big brother, and even though he is only twenty- he is so much older at heart.
I am KICKING MYSELF for waiting as long as I did to read this one! I couldn’t put it down. Such a wonderful story. I laughed throughout the entire book and highlighted over 100 lines, but it was emotional for me too... There were several parts that had me in tears. The writing was excellent, the characters were fabulous- and not just the MC’s- I loved Austin’s parter Luis, and Darryl and Cai. I can’t wait for more from this author! I’m sure the next book will be just as good (Cai and hopefully Riley?)

My ex-girlfriend was right- men do suck.
“Asshole,” I muttered.
“Was that a directive?”
“Sucking in bed is probably why he’s changing teams.”
“This relationship can only take one smart ass if its going to survive.”
“Do you know what I did to the last guy that called me Tinkerbelle?” “Slept with him?” Darryl was silent for a second. “After that.”
Other lines I just LOVED
“I’m not jealous over a guy I met a week ago.” Yes, I was. Fucking ridiculously jealous over a guy I met a fucking, lousy-ass, goddamn week ago.
“You have all the power, Austin.”
“Is that what you believe? Do you think I have any power when it comes to you?”
Maybe Peter was the answer. The problem and the answer. The answer without being a solution.
“No strings attached. Unless you want strings.”
“People aren’t always who they seem, Detective. Am I anything like you thought?”
“No,” I admitted. You’re a million times better than I could have imagined.
“Rabbit’s the rock we cling to when we’re drowning. He needs a mountain to hold him up, not another storm that’ll wear away at him.”
“Be selfish, Austin. Thats the only begging I can do. Be selfish.”
And my most favorite line of the whole book....
“Tell me something good about your life,”
“You.”

Is this a conspiracy or mere coincidence? I can just SMELL a conspiracy...
I wasted so much money on crappy books, only to find that the truly incredible ones are either free - The Administration (wtf!), Captive Prince (wtf!), I'm sure there are more examples, still a bit green when it comes to m/m, but working on that! - ..Right. They're either free or... $ 2,99.
Hell! The chapter titles in Shattered Glass alone are worth more than $ 2,99!
This book was a complete surprise! As cheesy as the models on the cover look, so extraordinary and brilliant is Shattered Glass itself. Alexander crams so much creativity, plot, sparkling dialogue, three dimensional characters and humor into 350 pages...I have 9 pages of highlighted sentences on my ereader: the book is one big one liner! (My body refused to allow me a suave, steady hand for my first blow job, "Late night with Angelica?" "A male prostitute." "you should watch what you say. One day someone's going to take you seriously.") I'm fairly certain that I never laughed so hard during a sex scene that managed to be dirty hot at the same time. And I haven't even mentioned those well-written tender moments yet.
Alexander truly nailed it.
In essence, this is a coming out story. But it only very subtly touches upon the angst and intolerance that can unfortunately accompany such a step. Instead Alexander takes you on a hilarious, entertaining trip during which the narrator, smart ass and trust fund baby Austin Glass, strives to thoroughly embrace the gay.
So this Austin Glass... he's 26, about to marry a beautiful woman, his ambitions as a Detective are paying off; a career at the FBI never seemed closer. Then a freckled and pierced redhead with a killer bod serves him in a diner and life sucker punches Austin in the gut and while its at it also royally fucks him over. The redhead becomes an obsession. Worse, it's a Peter. So he's a guy, yes. Which makes Austin...gay? His life spirals out of control rapidly: his marriage is suddenly a sham, his career on the rocks, his father - a public figure - hates "faggots" and the sexy Peter turns out to be damaged goods; a male whore and a suspect in a murder case. Austin has tinier problems as well: because how the hell does gay sex work?
I felt like James Bond or Maxwell Smart - Inspector Clouseau? - furtively glancing left and right before following Peter into the bathroom. "What are you doing?", he asked, briefly glancing at the hand I used to pull him into a stall. I raised my brows and tugged his belt loose once we were inside, door closed. "I thought it was obvious?"
"You want to have sex in a men's bathroom?"

This was really good and I really enjoyed it.
Austin was totally my brand of super HI-larious funny.
The story line took some turns I wasn't expecting and I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. There are so many other awesome Bunny Slipper reviews out there, so I'm not going to try and re-invent the wheel here.
But I will say this:
My only gripe with this book is that there was a LOT of build up to some VERY awesome sex scenes.
Sex scenes that never really came to fruition.
Now, I'm not saying that I always need some cinnamon in my latte...but when you hand me the Starbucks cup and wave the cinnamon shaker in my face - I expect you to deliver.
But there was no delivery to be had here.
Oh well.
Looking forward to reading book two!

5 'Holy Fucking Christ, Dear Sweet Mother of God' this book was fucking AWESOME stars

I have to warn you in advance, when I get excited about something, I tend to swear like a sailor with tourette's syndrome. You've been warned... FUCKITY FUCKING FUCK but this book was awesome! I don't even have the words to describe how much I loved it. I'm pretty sure I highlighted every single word that came out of Austin's mouth. I couldn't stop myself. He was like a lingual Midas. Everything that came out of the man's mouth was pure gold.

Austin Glass seemingly has it all, a great job as a detective with the FBI lined up, a more than healthy trust fund that keeps him in $2000 suits for work, a charming personality that seems to get him whatever he wants, a wise crack for every occasion, and a loving fiance. There's just one problem that he seems to have now. After seeing a certain redheaded busboy in bunny slippers, Austin can't seem to stop thinking about him. Which proves to be a bit of a problem. How does a man that has been engaged 4 times, and cheated on each woman with the next one, all of a sudden find himself fantasizing about

Some instantly smitten kitten behaviour. . .
. . . which leads to confusion for Austin about his sexuality.
Did I mention sexual tension? Because there was plenty of that.
Phew! I need to cool down at the mention of the tension.

Amusing repartee.
Heartbreaking back stories. Yes stories. Plural.
A very engrossing crime sub plot.
Bad dudes.
Danger.
Scares.
Austin announcing his now realised sexuality often at the most inappropriate times.

*3.5* Trying to follow the writing in this book was like chasing a toddler on skates through a Chuck E. Cheese, during multiple family birthdays, on a Saturday afternoon.

Shattered Glass was a great read in the m-m romantic supense category. Was it perfect, no. After just finishing it, I'm dwelling more on the negatives than the positives, which is bothering me. It was a fun book very worthy of 4 stars. The writing is great, the characters felt real (I could picture each one), and the story is gritty enough that it felt true to life. It wasn't all sunshine and daisies, which I liked.
However, it wasn't a 5 star read for me for a few reasons. I wanted more ROMANCE. There weren't many verbal declarations of... well... anything. I also hated that I also think the mystery was a bit thrown together in the end. Still, I really enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down to do anything else today!

This is one of those "strange" things that can happen when you're in a company of a good book. Here are few reasons that should make me dislike this book:
One, it is looong. It clocks around 450+ pages on my Kindle. Man, I don't think I even read a lot of mainstream novels that are more than 450 pages.
Two, the main characters are actually not that likeable. Austin Glass, the detective, is (I'm using Dani Alexander's words in the book to describe him) "cruel, superficial, spoiled, and really fucked up emotionally". Austin even admits that he cheats often to escape commitment. And Austin is actually engaged with an older woman who used to sleep with his father. Icky alert!
While Peter, the love interest, is (again using Dani Alexander's words in the book) "obsessive, snarky, bossy, controlling, sleeps with men for money, uses sex to deflect conversations, and manipulative". Their relationship is volatile at the very least.
Three, the story is far fetched -- within two weeks, Austin learns that he is gay, sleeps with a suspect, conceales evidence of his lover's crime, houses a murdered, pisses off his fellow cops, and best friends with criminal. Seriously, the story is just over the top crazy; with twists and turns that rival reality TV.
BUT ... I can't stop reading it!! Losing a couple of good hours of my nap time to finish it. All those 450+ pages don't matter because I keep on clicking my Kindle to find out what happens next. Borrowing another Dani Alexander's term introduced in this book, I guess the story is just "adorkable". It's like crack. I mean it.
It doesn't really deal with simple stuffs either. There are: suicide history, prostitution, dirty cops, rape cases (off screen), murder, Albanian mother, Russian mafia connection, Russian names, bipolar disorder, and a mangy cat named Begone (that might or might not be a demon in disguise :p). The craziness works, and the language flows really nicely. Dani Alexander doesn't use flowery dramatic language, which truly helps for a story like this. Plus, some of those one liners are awesome; the story is simply enganging with all the hilarity it provides.
I guess now I will be one of those people waiting (not-so) patiently for Cai and Riley's story.

A book which gleefully oscillates between seriousness and silliness... The only thing more rewarding than reading this book was finally figuring out what all "Bunny Slipper" status updates were about...

Together Peter and Austin spell trouble - their attraction is more than merely dangerous for Austin's career, it could quite possibly be deadly...
There were so many heavy subjects packed into this book... lovingly wrapped in humor... I think a less competent author might have crumbled under the pressure of the undertaking. As it is, Dani Alexander has creating an amazingly balanced novel which I can't help but recommend...
There was a single POV from Austin's perspective though out the book, and his awkwardness shined through brilliantly.
The show was kind of stolen in the personality department by Peter's little brother Cai - whose past and present are heart-wrenching. He is emotionally unstable and wise beyond his years.
I will await the next installment. I will not, however, be holding my breath for a quick release...

This book would be entertaining for the solo reader, but I also recommend this for a book club. The eroticism doesn't permeate the text, and there is enough character development and seriousness to prompt many interesting conversations...

This was very different than I expected. It took me a minute to readjust my expectations, and then I really liked it.
First, the hero, Austin, was a seemingly heterosexual cop who was engaged to a woman. And, it wasn't one of those tropes where the woman was horrible and we were oh so glad that he realizes he's gay and dumps that bitch. No, she was nice, and sweet, and deserved better. I really like that the author did that and never made us hate her. It's so much easier to use that shortcut that other author's do and make her a villain.
See? Perfect girls DO exist. Take that, internet!
Next, the love-interest. He was hard to figure out. He was definitely not sweet and kind, like the fiance was. He's very layered. Like an onion. Or a cake. It took a while to decide if he was an onion or a cake.
And I wasn't sure what we would find once we got inside....
There is so much going on in this story. There are murders, and tons of other crimes. Layers and layers of crime. It was hard to figure out where it was all going.
Unless..... all those layers.... I think I see what the hidden meaning of this book was after all:
Yes! Everything makes sense now.

4.5 stars. Rounded up just because I feel guilty doing four stars just because I was bummed there wasn't more smut scenes in the book. I'm such an MM whore. Enough about me.....
I REALLY flipping enjoyed this one. The author must have a great sense of humor to create a character such as Austin. His flippant remarks were off the hook funny. By the end of the book, I felt like I knew him....wanted to know him personally. Austin is a vice squad cop in Denver when he sets eyes on Peter (aka Bunny Slippers) while in a diner waiting for an informant to show. He's drawn to these slippers, to this man with perfect reddish hair and freckles. He doesn't know what's wrong with him. He's not gay. He's engaged for goodness sakes. But he can't stop watching him and thinking about him when he's gone.

Austin can't deny his feelings for Peter. He's gay... He admits it. He just didn't realize the world of Peter was going to come crashing through his doors....quite literally. He's willing to give up his fiancée, his job, career hope for FBI, heterosexual status...anything for Peter. But with him comes a mess of problems.
“I've given up my living room, guest room, job, career, heterosexuality and my stance on no pets in the house, but I'm not giving up my room. I'm drawing a line.”

With Peter comes a cast of fantastic characters. His flaming friend Darryl who's hilariously gay-feminine, his "brother" Cai who's battled horrible things in life, bipolar disorder and is the sweetest thing ever! Lets not forget Cai's mangy cat Begone-
"for one thing, the...cat?- looked maimed, or burned. The thing was a walking biohazard of stale tuna seeped in sun- soured milk"

So, I'll let you go forth and read this. I don't want to spoil the story..... I just can't say enough how I loved each of the characters in the book. The author did a stellar job at character development. Each person had their own quirks, banter but they're all fiercely loyal. Austin's ability to finally own up to the years of denial related to his being gay and the banter between he and his cop partner Luis was also hilarious.
"Just seeing my partner cheered me up immediately. As he lifted his eyes over the computer monitor, I placed a giant butt plug on his desk. It reminded me of a mini beige traffic cone. " It's an early hump day gift!"
"Jesus, save me from the idiots, " Luis said.
Even his ex Angelina was awesomely supportive....
Speaking to Angelina about his relationship with Peter-
"luckily he makes up for it with a mouth that could suck a ping pong ball through a Twizzler." Her upper lip drew up to reveal her teeth. "Too soon?" Her laughter shook my body as she hid her face in my shoulder. "I love you Austin." "Me too, Angel. Me too."

***5 Hilarious Bunny Slipper Stars***
“I'm not gay.” That wasn't what I meant to say.
“Congratulations. Would you like a medal?” Bunny Slippers asked.
“I already have a medal. For bravery, not for being gay. I think you made me gay.”
“I made you gay?” He set down the napkin he was holding. “Is that better or worse than the person who made you stupid?”
Austin Glass is engaged and already preparing for his upcoming wedding. He comes from a wealthy family and is working with the FBI. Everything soon changes when he meets "Bunny Slippers" --who works in a diner-- which was what he was staring at when he was waiting for an informant to arrive. There is something about him that called him and it all started with those bunny slippers. He finds him beautiful and intriguing. Soon, he finds himself questioning if he might in fact be gay and finds the truth in all of the emotions and memories of his past that he has kept deeply buried inside himself.
And f*ck it, I'm not gay. Goddammit.

...Bunny Slippers propped his shoulder against the wall, cocking his head slightly as he looked toward my car. My breath halted. I was sure he couldn't see me through the darkened windows, but somehow, it felt like he was seeing right into my slipper-obsessed soul.
The bunny slippers, a different pair --and how many did he have for f*ck's sake?
I freaking LOVED Austin!!! He was so freaking hilarious! I loved his witty humor, even if it was a tad bit on the rude side, who cares, I LOVED it! Then when he accepts he is gay, he wasn't annoying about how he really wasn't. He embraced it and didn't care what others thought of him, even if it still did hurt a bit. He was really honest, brutally at times, and made no apologies for being himself. He felt unworthy of love due to his parents never really giving him any. So I really enjoyed seeing how Peter affected him and making him question love. He went through a very tough situation as a teen. He lost a friend and never really dealt with it. So, he hides behind his sarcasm and jokes so no one can see him completely. But soon Peter changes everything and he finds himself willing to do almost anything for him, even if they have only have met in such a short amount of time.
I LOVED Peter aka "Bunny Slippers" too! He was only twenty years old but he was so mature for his age. He had to raise and support himself and Cai--who is bipolar-- with the help of Darryl by any means possible, which led him to prostitution. Peter loves them both dearly, so he would do absolutely anything to make sure they are safe and taken cared of. Which is what he does when Cai is accused of murder. His upbringing was really terrible, I felt for him and all that he had to witness at such a young age. When Austin shows interest in him, he thinks that all he wants is his body, that he can never be interested in the person. It was really sad that he had to learn how to hide his emotions so well so that no one would worry about him. He was the one always caring for others and never asking for anything in return. I really loved him!

Overall, it was really well written and I loved all of Austin's inner dialogue. It was so funny to see the banter between Austin and Luis as well. The chemistry between the two main characters was very enjoyable. Their relationship was built slowly. There was steam although not a lot but still it was good. The secondary characters were highly entertaining. I really liked Darryl, he had funny moments and was loyal. I absolutely loved Cai, he was really intelligent, talented and had an innocence that just endeared you. I wanted to hug him and keep him in my pocket! It was so cute how he ended up having a crush on Riley. I am SO excited and HIGHLY anticipating Cai's story! I LOVED this book and I can't say enough how good it was to me. I definitely recommend you give this a try.

Mystery, romance, wit, humor, freckles, and bunny slippers! I have such a huge crush on this book! Love, love, love every single thing about it! Haha…Let me give it another go without using the word love 50 times! (Yeah right)
Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander is a fast moving, complex, hilarious mystery touched with sadness and filled from top to bottom with characters to adore. Austin, Peter, Darryl, Cai, Luis, and so many more captured my imagination, smile, and heart. I fell in love with Austin from the jump. What’s not to like about a rich, cocky, smartass? :)
Detective Austin Glass appears to have his life, career, and love all planned out. That is until he sets eyes on Peter. Everything from the case to his love life turns upside down from there. How long can you hide and deny your true self and identity? Austin’s world blows up with such speed and hilarity it will leave you in awe and giggles. Over and over again whether he puts his foot in his mouth or someone comes walking in at just the right time, Austin truly thrives on a priceless gift of embracing the moment and pieces of his shattered life. A crime and case brings Peter into Austin’s life, but will the case now tear them apart?
The back and forth battle for trust, information, leverage, and love between Austin and Peter made me dizzy! At times I was in complete awe of Austin—the way he could just throw caution to the wind and put his feelings out there after hiding for so long. But other times, I was a complete mess, stomach in knots, hands in fists—just waiting for Peter to crush his heart. My heart went from awe to anger in a blink of an eye. Yelling at my kindle over and over—“I can’t believe he said that!” or “Just kiss him!” haha…I loved it!
But it was the writing that had me swooning! This book pulled me right in and kept me there. I can’t tell you how many times I almost missed my train stop. :D The back and forth barbs and comebacks snap, snap, *SNAP* readers around from one word to the next. Dani Alexander’s world, words, and wit required and captured my full attention. Once I fell into these pages, it took a physical force to yank me out. The “snap-crackle-and-pop” between the characters, action, words, and scenes grabbed a hold of my reading heart and never let go! The energy pushed the story along at such a maddening pace and mix of relief, pain, fear, love, and lust--it was dazzling! A one of a kind read.
I want to give you a taste here, but it is nearly impossible and a bit unfair to pull a conversation or quote out of the flow, magic and energy of the story…but I’m going to give it a go. But really it feels like cutting off a limb somehow. Every time I went to pull a couple of lines it would turn into a few and then the whole scene. The words and energy just flow. To take one piece out, somehow felt wrong to me. But hell—I do love to contradict myself. :)

I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud while reading a book.
Great plot, great dialogues, great combination of humor, action, suspense, mystery and love.
Austin and Peter are amazing characters and the banter between them is hilarious.
I loved Austin! He is so blunt, sarcastic, funny and sweet.
A very refreshing read!

Austin Glass is AMAZING. This book was perfect. Plot, characters, the damned rabbit slippers. Noone should miss this book.

This book was fantastic. The blurb had me hooked with the mangy cat and bunny slippers. I knew that I needed the story behind them and it didn't disappoint. I loved how complex this story was. It kept me on my toes through the whole book. I laughed a lot and I was taken completely by surprise a couple of times. I'm becoming a huge fan of cop romances. I love the action and suspense.
And I loved Austin. He was awesome! Loved his smartass remarks! He would drive me up a wall in real life but he was a great MC. Peter, on the other hand, took me a while to warm up to. I didn't connect with him right away but as his story was revealed, I began to like him more and more and by the end, I loved him just as much as Austin. The supporting characters were an eclectic bunch but rounded out the story nicely. Cai found his way into my heart and I can't wait to read his story. I just hope that Austin and Peter show up too!

Pure entertainment and hilarious like no other. This was me in so many levels I can’t start to explain it so I’ll just say that I had a blast reading this book, I fell in love with it and its extraordinary characters and I can’t recommend it strongly enough. This’s why I read, this is the reason I lose myself in books.
The adjective to describe Shattered Glass is: hilarious. My kind of humor but with the more than welcome touch of dark-seriousness that gives the plot the perfect amount of entertainment and thrill.
This story is a pleasure to read, a laugh out loud experience and, a combination of sexy and feels that hit home in every aspect I needed to.
I was captivated by these imperfect, acid, and sarcastic characters. They are everything . A delight.
Saying I love Austin Glass is an understatement. Saying I’m not obsessed with Peter Cotton would be a lie. My Peter Rabbit... (you should see my sighing face right now. Dreamy girl writing).
I lived for the funny tittles introducing a more than funny little chapters. I breathed for Cai to talk, or smile, or paint or stay there blank-staring. For Darryl to word-punch anyone anytime... and I could keep going for a while...
So, long story short (because I won’t do this book justice whatever I say) Shattered Glass has a crime plot developed in a great pace, side characters to die for, film references that made me squee and a humor that can make you smile and laugh so effortlessly it deserves an award. An award for keeping me invested, happy and permanently goose-bumped (if that term exists, that was me while reading this masterpiece of comedy-mystery-love story)

I believe firmly that our book taste alone is not responsible for our LIKING or NOT LIKING a book.
There are more than one happy coincidence for it.
First of all it is our mood.
Sometimes we are angry and disappointed or moody and bad-tempered or sad and despaired or we're in love of endlessly happy or just simply horny-all this conditions demand different kind of literature.
There are also another factors like:
*our current life situation
*our current life surroundings
*our current partner
*our last read book
*our last getting laid
I don't try to find excuses why I'm so especially fascinated by this book, I only try to justify somebody who is not.
According to me...
I don't need to say a lot except these simple 4 words:
I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK.
This book was absolutely perfect for me.
This book and me had a perfect timing because all this factors were prepared for me to love it.
This book and me are tuned to the same wavelength.
This book was written for me. Sorry for those who have a different opinion on this case, I have to disappoint you- this book is mine.

4.5 stars. Austin is one of the most appealing narrators I have ever met. Sweet, smart and honorable and hiding all that under a thick layer of sarcasm and smart-assery. He is confused by suddenly finding, weeks before his wedding, that his chasing after women has been a veneer hiding his true sexuality. One look at Peter, with his freckles and bunny-slippers and his tough exterior over wounded vulnerability, and it is all over for Austin. And the best part is he doesn't fight it. He doesn't grab for the shreds of his closet or bemoan his fate. He's gay, he's going to be out there and dive full speed into this confusing life change and let the chips fall where they may. And Peter, confusing Peter with his lies and his truths and his complex self-created family, is going to be at the center of that journey of self-realization. The presence of murder, arson, gun-shot wounds, betrayal of friends, three mothers with less-than-maternal attitudes, and a host of other complications can never get deep enough to touch what Austin feels for Peter. Even if he would rather have his dick cut off and eaten with tomato sauce before admitting how far his emotional needs go. Even if he never gets a straight answer from Peter.
The plot in this book is over the top enough to take a ladder to the roof and keep on climbing, and it matters not a whit. Occasionally it's a little confusing, which is where it lost that half-star from me. But I inhaled this book as fast as I could, and will read anything else Austin cares to narrate to me. Highly recommended for anyone who loves complex imperfect characters and can tolerate a little bit of plot issues.
