The Dragonfate Games #1

Alpha Dragon's Tiger

Rate this book
Welcome to the Dragonfate Games! Will you win the dragon's heart—or leave woefully unmated?

Tigers are solitary creatures, and omega shifter Taylor is no different. After years of being unwanted by his family and any potential mates, all he wants is a quiet life alone. His two close friends and quilting hobby are enough to be happy... aren't they?

Crimson is one of seven unmated alpha dragon brothers—and most importantly, not the one with the lizard-brained idea to host the Dragonfate Games. As much as Crimson despises the concept of a cheap dating show as a ruse to find their fated mates, his brothers have a point. As alpha dragons, the instinct to find an omega to bear their eggs is impossible to ignore. But Crimson would never fall in love with the type of man who'd enter a dating show, for Holy Drake's sake...

When Taylor is tricked into entering his name into what he thinks is a quilting sweepstakes, he's thrown into a ridiculous dating show. Taylor nearly walks off—until he locks gazes with a particular ruby-eyed dragon that changes his life forever.

Alpha Dragon's Tiger is a fun, sweet mpreg novel with low angst and high stakes! Fluffy HEA guaranteed.

OH WOW THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN! 🤭😋❤️

It has been a while since I enjoyed a book so much I didn’t realised it’s finished. I read this so fast I only finish it late bcs I need to stop a couple times. College sucks and my reading mood kinda slowed down a little lately.

First of all, this was soooo entertaining :P:P I love Oakley’s writing so much and this was one of his best.
I really love the MCs especially Taylor’s character. He’s so grumpy, but caring to people close to him. He’s a private person, but know how to stand up for himself and protect his friends. Their friendship is a mixed of chaos and sweet I really adore them. I can’t wait for Muzo and Poppy story next :))

The plotline was fun! The game reminds me of a gay island show (something) I watched and it’s really a cool concept. Especially with mpreg and shifters. It’s unique! I couldn’t stop reading. And guys, the sexual tension in this one was so good I was like an omega in heat lmao 😭😭 damn, the hotness! 🥵

I was quite confused with the suit kinky sex, but it was hot sooo… no problem with me! AHAH This book hold so much promise for the whole series and I can’t wait for them all. I love the idea, the execution, and the characters. Hopefully the games would be so much better planned with the fated mates trope since this was a little bit funny bcs they already know they’re fated lmao.

This was amazing ❤️❤️

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

His purr deepened, and his amber feline eyes glittered with affection. I could tell that was exactly how he felt, too. Then his affection overwhelmed him, and he licked my face with his rough, scratchy tongue, causing both of us to burst into laughter.

Oh my dear, I had such a good time reading this one. Just super charming and entertaining. Dragon and tiger shifter pairing, fated mates and a dating game show? Yup, 10/10. It was exactly what I wanted it to be and gave me a nice break from real life. Definitely recommend if you just want to have a fun, low angst read.

But a dragon's curiosity couldn't be contained. We were like giant, scaly cats.

Taylor groaned, running a hand down his face. “Why’d I have to go and fall in love with a flying reptile?”

3.5 Stars!

This book frustrated me in that the writing is fluid and smooth. The plot has possibilities and we were forewarned it is a HEA story, however; The characters are almost stereotypes, the plot is simple or none existent, the villain or complication is .... not sure what they are, and the overall impact is boring or ... almost embarrassment? I am not sure why I am feeling that one. It does not rate a good snack and it was a struggle to finish. Someone else read this and let me know because my reaction confuses me.

I see this series every time I search Mpreg. I LOVE the covers but skip it, thinking it's full of OM drama with the dating show. So far, there isn't! The drama between contestants and the challenges they did to win dates kept it juicy and fun, but Crimson only had eyes for Taylor 🥺 They had great chemistry. Silly banter. Ommmggg! Yall. There's a SUIT kink in this. shocking how into that I was.

"I cried out. A psychosomatic lust seized me. I felt frenzied, like Taylor was fucking my hole with a ten-inch dildo instead of putting his fingers in my blazer"

The way the brothers were fussin n lovin on Crimson and Taylor's egg/baby dragon gave me warm fuzzies. They want that too 🥺 I'm excited for their books. Especially Voils.
Off to the next one.

Here’s the thing - you can’t really have fated mates be a thing if the whole plot of the book is a bachelor style competition. Like before the omegas even showed up Crimson was intrigued by Taylor and then after they met it’s like the rest of the 20 competitors might as well not have been there.

The drama between Taylor and Alaric was pointless because Crimson wasn’t interested in Alaric but because of how the challenges were set up he couldn’t just eliminate him.

Also the challenges were dumb because they were all physical and automatically excluded anyone who couldn’t swim or climb a cliff. And it didn’t even matter who came first - Crimson got to choose his date out of everyone who completed the challenge and he always picked Taylor.

I wish the plot had been more like the brothers invite a bunch of omegas for a ball or something more social based. We hardly met any of the other omegas and the ones we do meet I’m sure will be love interests in the other books.

Also wtf was the suit sex scene?! I’m glad I finished the book if only to have experienced Taylor fucking Crimson’s suit pocket and Crimson losing his mind with arousal over it????? So bizarre.

The good
    + Taylor's friends
+ Taylor protecting his anxious friend and helping him through the challenges
+ Crimson not giving a damn about hiding his feelings from Taylor
    + Crimson's hoard
    + Crimson's unusual kink
+ Taylor indulging in Crimson's kink
+ Taylor quilting a gazillion blankets for their baby
+ Crimson and Taylor talking endlessly about fabrics
+ Cobalt. I bet he's going to end up with Poppy!
    + The cover

The neutral
o Crimson claimed Taylor without prior consent. It was unclear whether the bite was magical, but if it were, that would've been something they should have discussed beforehand

The bad
    - A few of the brothers were very speciesist, deeming dragons much better than other shifters. And all of the brothers thought humans were dirt under their shoes
    - This book requires the reader to suspend disbelief and just roll with everything to an almost frustrating level. You can really only enjoy it if you accept what's going on and don't try to make sense of anything. I mean, really, a dating show for finding the fated mate of a dragon, but once the dragon has found his fated mate the show must still continue? There's also no reason to compete at all if the winner will be a fated mate anyway, and not the best competitor
    - The challenges were completely random and tested none of the traits Crimson found important in a mate. I don't understand why he went along with it. For all he knew, his fated mate could've been sent home just because he couldn't swim! The last challenge was also obviously dangerous, after Crimson had just been assured there was no danger to the contestants. One contestant almost died and nobody batted an eye
    - The epilogue was not an epilogue. It took place on the same day as the last chapter

Quotes
"It's you. Only you. And if I can't have you, I want nobody else."

"Aww, look at you. Underneath that prickly exterior, you're a big softie, aren't you?"
"I'm going to claw your face off."
Crimson beamed like I'd complimented him.

I had hoped for a little more pushback from Crimson against the ridiculous challenges for the show. Also, it would have made for some very good TV if he'd just whisked his fated mate away and flown off into the sunset with him. No need to keep up the charade. But other than that, I really enjoyed the connection between Crimson and Taylor. They were a great fit. Would definitely recommend this book just for the relationship between the main characters; just ignore the TV show drama.

DNF at 51%.

Too simplistic and too much instalove/lust. Plus, the author doesn't seem to understand basic principles of physics, including gravity and air resistance, velocity vs speed, etc. Also, principles of time and understanding that "gasping" and "looking" take time and you're not going to get under a rock in a less than 20foot fall.

Ignoring him, I slammed my paws into the cliff, inching up one step at a time. But my tiff with Alaric left me irritated, so I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have been. My claws caught a loose rock the size of a human fist and plummeted from under my paw. I gasped, looking down. If there was anyone beneath me, they'd get hit—and from this height, it would hurt. My heart sank when I saw a familiar figure directly below me. Muzo. My body moved faster than my brain. I unlocked my claws from the cliff, twisting in midair as I fell towards him.

Alaric made fun of my large size, but in this case, my weight was a blessing. I lost altitude just fast enough to outrun the plummeting rock. I couldn't push Muzo out of the way, otherwise he'd fly off the cliff.

Steeling myself, I sank my claws into the earth just above Muzo and used my body as a shield, taking the blow instead of him. I grunted as the rock hit me. It bounced off my thick haunch, then tumbled harmlessly down to the ground. <\blockquote>

i foolishly judged a book by the cover (it’s GORGEOUS) and here we are

to be fair i read this in probably two hours, maybe a little less, so it was a super quick and breezy read. you need to suspend disbelief and not take anything too seriously, because the plot holes are glaring and the cheese is over the top. once you get around 80% it starts to rapidly fall off what was already a very low cliff by plunging us into a very cringey scene that was supposed to be kinky and instead left me with such unbearable secondhand embarrassment i had to temporarily stop reading and consider DNFing with 17% left

Bueno.
Esto tenía todas las papeletas a ser abandonado o que me dieran vergüenza algunas escenas. Pero, ¿saben qué? Me he enganchado, pero de tal manera que ya estoy al día con las historias y necesito más drama.

No hay un por qué. No tengo remedio.

Not gonna lie, I picked this up entirely based on a slightly unhinged review that I saw in an instagram video. And after I saw the cover for it? I simply had to have it in my little goblin hands.

This was such a fun take on reality dating shows! I loved that both of our main characters were highly skeptical of the entire process and didn’t want to be involved in it at all. I loved that Crimson was such a grump and that Taylor was so sunny in comparison. I also liked that they were both into similar hobbies and got to bond over that together. Also! I absolutely loved the sibling dynamics that Crimson and his brothers had! It was so funny whenever they were all together, the banter was 100% something that would happen.

I really liked that this book didn’t take itself too seriously. It was cute and funny and had me giggling so much. So I’m giving Alpha Dragon’s Tiger a solid four stars. I can’t wait to read the next one! 😊

The audio was pretty good. The narrator had a gruffer, more growley voice than I had been expecting.

4.5

Usually, a gorgeous cover sucks me in and then lets me down. Alpha Dragon's Tiger did not. I loved pretty much everything about it.
The setup of the game show and the reluctance that both Taylor and Crimson showed initially was fab. I really liked each of the brothers and have a theory or 5 about Viol.
Taking it from a 5 to a 4.5 was the suit thing in the later stages. It was a little too weird for me, however I got why it was there.
I'm so happy that this is a series with Matteo being next. I really need Poppy to get a mate, again I have a theory.
Pretty cover and great story

A Grand Time

If you read this book you are in for laughs, family love, banter and all the ridiculousness you can stomach in the best way possible! I loved the cast of characters - from the unique members of the dragon family to each of the omegas that made their way to the island looking for love. The book is light hearted and leaves you feeling so good.

This was a super cute, fun shifter romance. The concept of a game show to find you mate doesn’t seem like it would work but it absolutely did! The games were fun and I loved how the games themselves were handled (especially after they knew they were mates)!

I loved how loyal and caring for his friends Taylor was! And how he held his own with Crimson. I enjoyed the dragon and getting to see their relationship develop. Their HEA was cute! Definitely recommend!

cute story, I liked that Taylor wasn't the typical "omega" type. Having him be protective and strong worked well in the story. Loved that the Crimson thought the games were a stupid idea but ended up being the best thing to ever happen to him. I hope Taylor's bff's are mated to some of the other brothers.

I picked up this book because I wanted to read something stupid but this went a little above and beyond in that way. I’d rate it 2,5 but honestly I can’t even round up because the narration is very plain, the insta-love fated-mates in this case means a plotless book in which basically nothing happens, there’s no character development nor relationship development

It was an okay silly light book until the suit-fucking. It was at 81% of the book and I was mostly skimming, and then it happened and I had to go back and reread it, to make sure I understood everything right. I read too many dark romance books and I know like hundreds of different kinks, but this was wild even for me 😂

This was super enjoyable, cute, and sweet, with just the right amount of humor. The scene with the suit 😂 (you’ll know which one I mean when you read it) - top tier.

3 ⭐️

Disclaimer: I’m going to review it without spoilers at the top, then create a line and anything below that line will be spoilers. Do with that what you will.

To be honest, I’m kinda embarrassed that I picked this book up 😅 but I needed something quick and light. And I knew that this would be it. What surprised me is that although I have plenty complaints, this was a solid 3 star book. And the good kind vs the disappointed 3-star kind.

Overall, this was enjoyable. There was a unique concept and I enjoyed the characters. This author honestly had a great idea and I would have loved to see this book expanded. The plot could have been vetted out more and been made into a 400+ page book to make the angst and rivalry more of a thing, while also building the love vs Instalove. I’d have liked the author to challenge themselves more to give a fully thought-out book and series vs quick events and ending.

What I liked:
- Unique concept having essentially a Bachelor show to find a mate
- I love that the author doesn’t make this a dragon-only shifter story AND that all the shifters are completely unique animals. Nothing basic about these shifters.
- Dragon hoards are standard, but I love Crimson’s unique hoard.
- Their first spicy scene was rife with tension/teasing, which make it a lot more enjoyable than I expected it to be since it was so quick into the book. It was more focused on teasing and intimacy than the lust-driven scenes that tend to be in smut lol.
- The baby’s physical features 😍

What I didn’t care for/am on the fence:
- Crimson having red eyes. It wasn’t mentioned initially and then it kinda freaked me out thinking of a human with red eyes. Also, I wasn’t expecting him to have black hair.
- Instalove always just annoys me. You’re in love and you’ve met the person a couple times? Come on.
- They could have mentioned Crimson’s suits in more detail. I know it’s an insignificant thing but if Crimson is obsessed, showcase that more.
- Introduction to a flying shifter in the 2nd challenge, as if they wouldn’t have also been first for the 1st challenge.
- The baby’s name…snooze. A little too on the head.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
————————————————————

- Dating show but the winner of every challenge was Taylor? Snooze. The challenges should have been more fair (i.e not climbing a cliff when there’s shifters who can’t do that is just a skewed outcome) and the first person should have been the winner of that challenge vs the dragon choosing. This would have built some of the other characters and made the pining over Taylor a thing. Could have made for some comedic writing too.
- Really unsure how suit sex is hot in the manner that it was depicted, but damn was it hot 🥵 I loved Taylor becoming dominant and Crimson being subby. Plus it was sexual but simultaneously weird and not actually sex. I was bricked the whole time 😂
- Favorite quote: Good to know. It'll make me feel like less of a greedy slut when I make you come down my throat. // this in the moment was just insanely hot. This author knows how to create an extremely sexy and unique spicy scene.

I really liked the concept of this book. The idea of a gameshow to find the fates mate of a group of dragon shifters...*chef's kiss.*

The writing her is a lot of fun, and I love the idea of an omega tiger shifter. I really enjoyed Taylor's character - his focus on his quilting and fabrics is how I see myself with reading, and I totally related to his desire to be happy with his hobby and his friends.

Saffron and the dragon brothers are really interesting. I'd love to see more of the dynamic between the seven of them, especially whatever's happening with Viol. I enjoyed Saffron's character and the dynamic between him and Taylor.

While I'm not always the biggest fan of insta-love, it kind of worked here. The writing was done well enough that I was convinced with it, and that's impressive in itself!

What didn't work here, unfortunately, is the whole game show. While I understand that Saffron had no say over the challenges, they were pretty generic and irrelevant to the point of the games. Additionally, I didn't see why the games needed to continue after Saffron claimed Taylor, though I do kind of understand the "you'll get to know him better" argument that's used as a hand-wave explanation, I suppose.

Still, while the game show aspect needs more work for the next couple of books, the dynamic between Saffron and Taylor really made this story. It was loads of fun and I'll definitely be coming back for the next book!

3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4stars for making me like an insta love instance!
