A different kind of Regency romance!

The hero, Mateo the conde de Montayas, is an impoverished Spanish count who goes to England to recover a stolen family heirloom. He wants revenge against the man who stole the heirloom and destroyed his family. While in London, he attends balls as the conde de Montayas but he's also the masked intruder who's breaking into those same houses in search of his family's stolen heirloom. He quickly learns his hated enemy is dead but has left behind a daughter. And he decides to use Teresa Darlington to find the heirloom and exact his revenge.

Teresa Darlington's mother married a commoner. After her father's death, she and her mother must live with an aunt with secrets to protect. And the Duchess hates Teresa. But Teresa loves her cousin, Lady Sara. Despite hating balls, she endures the crowds for Sara's sake. That's when she meets Mateo--and the Masked Intruder. And she's strangely attracted to both men.

Smart and witty Teresa isn't like most women. And while Mateo finds her irresistible, she poses a danger to his plans. Despite his growing feelings for Teresa, he can't let her distract him from his goal. He must find the heirloom and destroy her father's good name.

When Teresa learns of Mateo's motives for befriending her, she turns the tables on him by agreeing to help find the heirloom. She'll do anything to protect her frail mother from scandal and prove her father's innocence.

Despite a lack of trust, Teresa and Mateo find themselves falling in love. But Teresa thinks Mateo is only after the heirloom and Mateo believes Teresa is using her feminine wiles to distract him from his goal.

There's romance and adventure in this uniquely written Regency. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because there was one question left unanswered at the end of the story. Why did the thief steal the heirloom and why was it hidden where it was? I'm hoping this unanswered mystery means there's a sequel in the works. I'd love to see Eduardo or Blaine get his own story.

I look forward to reading more books by this wonderful author.

Wow! If you love stories of sexy masked men, Katherine Grey's historical romance IMPETUOUS is the book for you. And if you love stories of equally determined women who match the heroes at their own dangerous games, again, Katherine’s book is for you.

Mateo de Montayas is a man on a mission of vengeance: to find an object that has been stolen from his bankrupt family, and to ruin his deceased enemy’s family in the process. So he dons a mask and enters select homes of the wealthy in search of the object. The fact that Mateo is a penniless Spanish count, robbed of his wealth, gives him an intriguing back story.

Teresa Darlington (daughter of Mateo’s enemy) wants to prevent him from ruining her dead father’s name, and decides to do a bit of breaking and entering of her own. Her strength and determination, pitted against the grief of losing her mother, having to endure an unloving and hostile aunt, and the fear of losing her only home, makes her a heroine to root for.

Underneath the surface of her bravery, Teresa’s slight naivety and sweet persona should make her an easy target for Mateo’s revenge, yet he can’t seem make himself take advantage of her, even when she offers an insane bargain most men would not refuse. This gentlemanly side of him, in contrast to his devilish streak, will entice readers and win them over heart and soul.

Full of steamy encounters, intrigue, danger, and adventure, IMPETUOUS captivated me from the very first chapter. I won’t give away spoilers for future readers, but I will say that the ending isn't quite what readers might expect — very refreshing.

I look forward to reading more of Katherine’s books!

As a lover of Regency romances, I wasn’t sure how I would like a Spanish hero. I’m used to the English dukes and lords–the rakes of the regency era. So it was quite a surprise to fall in love with such a great character like Mateo! The book opens with the very mysterious Spanish count stowing away in an English estate, eavesdropping on a conversation all the while rolling his eyes at the stupidity of the English, which I will have to admit is quite funny!

He’s on a mission to find an heirloom that was stolen from his family leaving them completely impoverished. He will stop at nothing to gain his revenge. When he finds that his enemy is actually deceased, he turns his revenge onto the beautiful daughter, A perfect plan begins to form in his head.

He gets her to help him in the search. Naturally, like any good Regency, lots of danger and sexual tension follow! With a very surprising ending, this book will have you rooting for Spaniards to take over more regencies, I guarantee it!

I truly liked Teresa as the heroine, she had a mixture of naivety to her but was also very independent and willing to do anything to escape the life that she had been living. Including helping the handsome rogue with his quest.

For all Mateos shortcomings, he had quite a lot of self restraint when it came to Teresa, which I really appreciated as a reader. I would have hated the book had he taken advantage of her.

The book had a couple great twists and turns. All in all I found it a very refreshing read! Great for regency lovers. It will definitely make you a fan of Katherine Grey.

I really loved the heroine, Teresa. She has every bit as much honor as the Spanish hero, Mateo, as she attempts to protect her family from any scandal. The author infused her with such humane characteristics, which made her all the more relatable to the reader. You are warmed by her caring nature, you root for her during her adventures, and you shed tears over her trials and heartbreak. Well, I did at any rate.

The hero, Mateo, is on a mission to restore his family to respectability in Spain. I could sympathize with his plight throughout the story. Even with his ulterior motives, he treated the heroine with nothing but honor and respect. I really liked that he didn’t take advantage of Terera’s naivety when he had more than the opportunity to do so. Don’t get me wrong, toward the end, a swift kick the groin was in order, but he completely redeemed his momentary lapse in judgment, in my opinion. Apparently, like some men in real life, Regency heroes can experience moments of temporary stupidity as well.

Nonetheless, I found this a charming read that captured my attention from the very beginning. I enjoyed watching the hero and heroine’s love grow throughout the story. And I’m certain I had a silly smile on my face when they finally found their happily ever after together. If you are looking for a sweet, lighthearted Regency, this is the story for you.

This book is a Regency romance with an unusual twist. Instead of the usual English Duke, the hero of Impetuous is a Spaniard. I was swept away by Mateo. I can't be sure what the author intended, but to me he was the embodiment of Antonio Banderas as Zorro, mask and all. So much fun!
