A guide to drawing manga for artists of all skill levels offers step-by-step illustrations for pencil-drawing, inking, and coloring techniques and explains how such new technology as Adobe Photoshop can be used to create manga artworks.
Este libro es ideal para todos los que desean aprender sobre el manga y las tecnicas especiales, pero decidí ponerle 4 estrellas porque siento de que algo le falta...
A great book when you need some basic tips and inspiration. Separate sections for drawing eyes, mouths, hair cuts, getting the shine on hair, face shapes, clothing, accessories etc. Even tips on drawing proportions for manga children (chibbie) and manga elderly people. Very easy to follow and many examples of manga bodies in motion doing sports or melancholy school girls being demure and endangered.
One complaint: whoever drew all the pictures is clearly right handed, as about 98% of all the faces of the manga drawings are facing the same way. Having some flip-side examples would have broken up the pattern and given more variety for the amateur drawer to practice with.
Still I would love to own this book, and keep it around for whenever I need to kick start my drawing again.
I'm reading this book as part of a self-study course on manga illustration. It's a really good introduction to the subject. It is a bit different from most how-to-draw books. It's longer, more comprehensive, and uses a beginner's style with beginner's examples. It does not come with expectations of immediate success at drawing the right way. Although it is long, it is full of good opportunities to learn something. I recommend it. It is my favorite manga illustration guide.
