Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.
Lora Leigh is a New York Times bestselling author of erotic romance novels. Leigh started publishing with electronic publisher Ellora's Cave in 2003. Leigh's longest-running series is The Breeds. She won the 2009 RT Award for erotica. Leigh was born in Ohio and raised in Martin County, Kentucky, US.
Yes it's formalistic - still I enjoy these books and suck it down like soda pop. Bad for me but oh so tasty. I borrowed this book from the Library just so I could read Lora Leigh's novella. What happened to Piper? Now I know how she and Jed "get it on". It was a little bizarre about the fashion designer.
Dawg is still as domineering as ever. In this one, he comes across actually unstable. Unstable in the sense that he's loosing it with his white knight syndrome. He believes he is responsible for all of his sisters. He can't handle if they were to get hurt, ever. Wow, someone died and made him God. His complex is rather disturbing. I'm not sure if I am on his bandwagon or looking for someone to give him a reality check. Still, it's admirable he is trying and he's sweet. It's nice to have such powerful men surrounding for protection.
Piper and Jed's sexual heat is fine. It's the same tug and pull as all the rest and ends predictably. Cherry busting territorial man ready to introduce repressed and oppressed Piper how the real world plays. One thing I can't really understand, why don't these women just take classes in fighting? Forcing their male relatives to teach them out to defend themselves would be nice. They keep saying it, but they don't do anything.
The second one in this book was okay. It is a fast and furious whirlwind to protect someone w/o them ever knowing it. This one kind of came out of left field with the villain. A bit contrived with a nice happily ever after. Recommended for those who love alpha males who will do anything to protect their women.
This was such a highly anticipated anthology for me…I’ve waited YEARS!!!! YEARS!!!!! At the time, I was not ready to let go of either of these series. And of course, these two awesome ladies didn’t disappoint. NAUTIER AND WILDER is action packed, full of suspense but chocked full of HEAT.
Nauti Siren by Lora Leigh
This actually felt like a novella in the Nauti Girls series, even though it’s listed as a Nauti story. Piper McKay is one of the long lost MacKay sisters that resurfaced in NAUTI TEMPTRESS. Piper has taken up Eve’s room at the B&B, even though there’s an undeniable attraction between her and long term resident at the B&B, Jed Booker. What she doesn’t know is Jed is not what he seems but an undercover agent. Meanwhile, Piper gets an opportunity to escape to NY to maybe showcase her fashion designs when things turn sour and she ends up finding trouble.
NAUTI SIREN was a lot more enjoyable to me than NAUTI TEMPTRESS. Piper was likeable, Jed was hot, the story had some meat to it and the sex was off the charts HOT! Really…it’s more like classic Lora Leigh that I’ve known and loved! And for that I’m happy. I cannot wait now for the next Nauti Girls book.
Riding to Sunset by Jaci Burton
This was the story I didn’t know I was missing to the WILD RIDERS series. And I mean that because I was happy with how Ms. Burton ended things in the last book in the series. But this ties it all with a nicer bow. I can’t say this was the strongest story of the series, but it gives us the final chapter on how the Wild Riders are now definitely going to move on and maybe get new members because General Grange Lee is now retiring and along with that, the members will probably follow suit.
In this story, it’s all about the General. He has a sister he’s kept hidden to protect her, and she’s been kidnapped. He now suspects his niece, Elena, will be the next target and he sends the rookie of the team, Jed Templeton, to get close to her and protect her. Of course, he wasn’t counting on Jed falling in love in the process.
This story had just a little bit less heat than Lora Leigh’s but it was still very sexy, but also the resolution of the problem and who was after the General was a nice twist. The ending itself and how easy they got rid of the bad guy was sort of anti-climactic but overall, I enjoyed the story a lot.
I think this was the perfect hook into getting back to the Nauti Girls and the perfect way to let go of the Wild Riders. Although I can secretly harbor hope that there will be a whole new breed of Wild Riders to be formed now that these guys are done….Maybe? Although both stories are part of a series, I think they would both work well as standalones. After all, it was the original NAUTI AND WILD that introduced me to Jaci Burton, so it holds a special place in my heart.
Piper is tired of living with her overbearing, overprotective brother and cousins. Dawg is the worst though, worrying about everything and always thinking about something bad happening to his sisters, so he wraps them in cotton and they can’t stand it. Piper has a chance to show her clothing designs to a well-known designer in New York who she thinks can help her career take off. She knows Dawg will never let her go alone so she sneaks out to a meeting that went downhill from the start. She got herself out of that dangerous situation only to end up in another bad spot by accident. She’s beaten and Jed, an undercover agent who’s been living in Piper’s mother’s inn, gets called and goes to get her. They’ve been dancing around each other for some time, but Piper can’t stomach the thought of dating a man like Dawg, one who won’t let her live her own life.
I should have known I’d have some issues with Jed when early on after he watches a live video feed of Piper from her room on a camera she doesn’t know about. That screams weird and creepy, not hot and sexy. I wouldn’t say Jed is impossible to like, he’s definitely sexy but there was just something about their relationship that didn’t click for me. They have a lot of sex, about what you’d expect with a Lora Leigh book, but it felt and read like just sex, not romance.
The danger that Piper finds herself in was a bit confusing. There were a lot of players for such a short story all revolving around a large jewel smuggling ring. I felt like the main plot of story was all about Dawg and his obsessive, over-protectiveness and how Piper and her sisters deal with it. It ended up being a good story, but the relationship between Piper and Jed and the overall suspense storyline didn’t really wow me. Rating: C-
Riding to Sunset by Jaci Burton
What is it with hero’s being peeping toms?! It happens again in this story, Jed (yup, same hero name) sets up a security system, including a camera without the heroine’s knowledge. It’s for her safety, sure, but it’s still weird!! Heroes, stop doing this, please.
That aside, I really enjoyed this story and it’s the standout between the two in this book. The romance was so much more in depth and very solid. I enjoyed both characters both individually and together. Jed, a part of the Wild Riders, is sent by their leader, Grange, to protect his niece, Elena. A niece who has no idea she has an Uncle as he’s stayed hidden from her and has had minimum contact with his sister, Elena’s mom, for years. Elena’s mom is now missing and Grange suspects that Elena could be in danger as well. Jed goes in undercover to stay close to her but ends up getting really close.
I enjoyed Elena and Jed’s romance, it’s sexy and sweet and has that Wild Rider naughtiness we’ve come to know and love. I also felt like the suspense storyline had some meat to it, and it was interesting seeing things unfold. The ending was also very nice, I liked seeing how Grange and Jed both found something different for their lives, that made sense for them and it worked. This was a nice all around read. Rating: B
"Nautier and Wilder is the follow up book to Nauti and Wild by the same authors, both books in Nautier and Wilder are parts of a series however they read just fine as stand alone books. I love that these two fantastic authors are offering us yet again two great reads for the price of one.
Book one is Nauti Siren by Lora Leigh... We are back with the Mackay family and this time its Piper who is the one falling in love. With a brother like Dawg and cousins like Rowdy and Natches Piper has been protected more than she ever wanted and it is smothering. Piper just wants the chance to get her clothing designs out there and to lose her virginity to Jed Booker.
When Piper sneaks away to NYC trouble in the form of people from Dawg's past comes calling. In Ms Leigh's action packed, funny and sexy sexy sexy read we not only have Piper breaking out of the tight cocoon she has been wrapped in by her brother but we have the action/adventure of the mob and steamy hot sexual tension between Piper and Jed from the get go.
Book Two is Riding to Sunset by Jaci Burton... Elena's mother has always been a free spirit drifting in and out of her life, this time it is unusual that she hasn't had contact but not unusual enough for her to worry about it. Jed Templton is the newest of the Wild Riders, he left his post with the FBI for more adventure and excitement. General Grange the leader of the covert ops group the Wild Riders asks Jed to do him a special job keep an eye on his niece, Elena, while he looks for his sister, the catch is his niece doesn't know she has an uncle and she doesn't know her mother is truly missing.
Because her mother is such a wild child, go with the flow type Elena has developed into a very structured person. She has her store and her friends and when Jed blows into her life and things start to go crazy in her life she is unprepared for it all. Jed knows he needs to stay close to Elena but he is pretty sure the General is going to be less than happy when he finds himself drawn into a much more personal relationship than the job he was sent for.
Both of these books are action filled, with an element of suspense and lots of sexual heat. We expect great things from both Lora Leigh and Jaci Burton and this book shows we wont be disappointed in those expectations.
Nauti Siren ~ Lora Leigh I love those Mackay boys and enjoyed returning to Kentucky to see what everyone was up to. I liked Piper Mackay and really felt her frustration at the restrictions placed on her by Dawg Mackay. I think that kind of over-protectiveness would drive anyone nuts and cause them to rebel...at least a little bit. I really, really liked that Jed was on her side 100% even before they had any kind of relationship.
Riding to Sunset ~ Jaci Burton Another good story that unfortunately also has a guy named Jed as the hero which was a little disconcerting after reading the first one. I did however, like this Jed and felt he did a wonderful job protecting Elena Madison and of course romancing her. The sex in this one was H-O-T hot and well done. The chemistry was palpable and electric and I loved their HEA.
The nauti story did nothing for me. I remember why I wanted to give up on this series. Although the men are hot, the women aren't likable to me and just weak. The sex scenes weren't enough to save it for me because they weren't greatly written. Some weird wording like euphemisms and repetitive dialogue during sex. Just seemed like phoning it in! I liked the wild rider story much better. Sexy hero, hot sex, and likable characters. So that story gets a five, the other about a one, hence the three. Jaci's story was fun and sweet and sexy!
Really disappointed in the Nauti story from Leigh. Unfortunately the Nauti Girls series just isnt doing it for me and doesn't have the same vibe as the first Nauti books. This seems to be the second story in the Nauti Girls series with Dawg's sister Piper, so no wonder they moved the release date of this book, since Eve's book just came out in November.
(Sorry Jaci, but I will review your story when I start reading that series here soon.)
Jaci Burton "Here's the cover to NAUTIER AND WILDER, releasing December 2011.What do you think? :-)" SEEEEEE I knew I wasn't crazy, her FB page said Dec 2011!!!
Why can I not find this book anywhere??? It is not linked to either Lora or Jaci's pages, not in book store or their computer, not on iBooks??? WTF, need my nauti fix here people...LOL. Anyone know, please fill me in!
I think each story should have been a full length story. I felt it was too rush and left out too many important details of each story. But overall they both were good.
My Take - in General Both stories are sweet enough with some violence and nicely written sex., but I don't think either lives up to previous stories in either series, hence the "3".
The Stories Lora Leigh's "Nauti Siren" is Piper Mackay's story with Jedediah Booker, a friend and fellow agent of Dawg's. Seems Piper is finally fed up with Dawg, Rowdy, and Natches' overprotectiveness and when the opportunity comes, she's gone.
I felt that Leigh was both reaching for an excuse to get this story over with AND, at the same time, breaking out of the usual issues with new troubles. I know, contradictory. I liked that Piper's problems didn't revolve around her father's, Chandler Mackay's, plots, but I did feel as if Nauti Siren was more of a character to be checked off the list because Leigh didn't develop this.
Yes, I realize this is a short story, however, it is possible to develop an entire story within its fewer pages. Instead Leigh, oops, I mean Piper, spent most of her time whining about how irritating Dawg was about protecting her. The fashion designer who invites her to New York, the mob guys coming after her, Piper's own aspirations, the danger at the Inn, the wrap-up---even Piper's final realization get short shrift. We learn just enough so that there appears to be a story revolving around the complaining.
Even her relationship with Jed comes second to the grumbling. We do learn one interesting, and out of character [for Dawg]: seems Dawg's so pissed at Homeland Security for what they did to Mercedes and the girls that he's hiding Chandler's assets from them.
What's the deal with the unset stones anyway? Why bother to smuggle them when they're duty-free anyway?
As for the sex, we've come to expect in Leigh's Nauti Boys series, this is tamer. I don't know if it's a double standard, or that the Mackay boys are so good at preventing it, but it's standard romantic suspense sex.
The Nauti Siren Characters Piper Mackay is Mercedes' second oldest, a twenty-four-year-old virgin who loves to design clothes, and she's been attracted to Jedediah Booker, a supposed builder working contracts in Somerset, Kentucky, for a few years now. He's learned the hard way to accept her independence. Elijah Grant is one of his partners.
Eve is the oldest sister, and she's engaged to Brogan Campell, another partner, (see Nauti Temptress (Nauti Girls #1)). Mercedes is the girls' mother and she operates Mackay's Bed-and-Breakfast Inn; Timothy Cranston, the supposedly retired Homeland Security agent, is her lover. The two youngest sisters, Lyrica and Zoey, are close to breaking as well.
Dawg Mackay is a brother the Mackay girls recently discovered. He's married to Christa and they have a baby coming---although Dawg doesn't know yet. Rowdy McKay is married to Kelly; Natches is married to Chaya.
Eldon Vessante is a fashion designer in New York City who mentors promising new talent. John Broecun is the huge bodyguard/butler at Vessante's estate; turns out he has quite the reputation. Amy Seavers is one of Piper's clients; Gypsy Seavers is the sister, and a former Marine, who helps out.
Rudy Genoa is a mob boss who needs to placate the Russians. He's also Marlena Genoa's uncle whose plot to kill John Walker Jr. backfired due to the Mackays. Chester is the manager at a car rental agency who screwed up. Andre is Rudy's son; Nate Ryan is Andre's best friend and partner. Jones Morley is an ex-boxer who works for Genoa. Danny is Genoa's driver. Dennis should be the best choice to go after Piper. Marcel is the emissary between Rudy and Boris Cheslav, the Russian mob boss.
Bret Jordan, Matt Grace, and Olivia Camfield help Piper at the hotel. Guido and Rhylan Samson are staying at the Inn.
Jaci Burton's "Riding to Sunset" finds General Grange with some family problems and he taps the newest recruit, Jed Templeton, for help.
This would have made a bit more sense if she'd titled it "Riding into the Sunset" since it's all about retirement at the end.
Burton did a nice job developing the story from start to finish, even though the sudden love interest was simply dumped in to get it over with. Yes, I'm being snarky since Leigh couldn't be bothered to develop her story at all! I do like the sound of Elena's shop, Eclectic Designs---all that beach and water design---yum! And, of course, I'm a sucker for art. I'd love to see that dolphin!!
If Bishop was supposed to be a red herring, it needed more developing. I did like the sudden twist when Elena suddenly started questioning everything.
The Riding into the Sunset Characters Elena Madison operates a jewelry and art shop on the beach somewhere in Florida; Carla Madison is her mother and the General's sister. Marco is Elena's employee.
Jed Templeton is the newest Wild Rider recruit via the military then the FBI. General Grange Lee commands the Wild Riders: a group of Harley-riding operatives. Some of the crew makes enough of an appearance to "say" goodbye: Mac and Lily (she's pregnant), Diaz and Jessie, and Spence.
Todd Bishop is part of the business association and fancies himself as a ladies' man. Paco, Mitzie Winfield, and Amanda are all friends of Carla's.
Pete Northram is an old friend of Grange's; Dina is the wife who died.
The Cover The cover is a deep royal blue with a shirtless hunk, thumbs tucked into the front pockets of his jeans, standing in front of a motorcycle, both emerging from the fog surrounding them.
The title is an amalgam of their series' names: Nautier and Wilder, just with a bit more oomph since they've already been simply Nauti and Wild.
Piper Mackay is so done with her overbearing and over protective brother Dawg and her cousins Rowdy and Natches. If they would just let up a little, she wouldn’t feel so suffocated in her day to day life. They are never far, monitoring her and her sisters in every minute detail. She just wants a little space to live her life, follow her dreams. Add to that, her increasing attraction to Jedediah Booker, and she is frustrated on a whole different level.
Jedediah Booker is well aware of Piper’s attraction to him. In fact, he shares in it, but he knows that she is hesitating because she thinks he’ll be the same type of overbearing asshole her brother is. Jed does not want to be that kind of man but he knows it will take a lot to convince her he does not want to tie her down and keep her from living her life.
When Piper sneaks away to see a man about a possible design job, Jed watches, hidden in the dark. Letting her go is hard, but the first step in what he hopes will prove to her he isn’t like Dawg and the cousins. Unfortunately, danger does find her and when she is attacked, Jed must come to her rescue.
I am a fan of Lora Leigh and her Navy Seals/Elite Ops and Nauti Boys books were my first foray into books with strong alpha men who are overprotective and clearly fit the term alpha-asshole. At the same time, I always felt the strength of the romance and the strong bonds between the main couple. I was a little bit lost while reading this book because I couldn’t connect with Dawg and these four sisters that apparently came into his life. I did not read the first Nauti Girls book which came out last November, so I was missing some vital facts and the foundation for these characters.
I enjoyed Piper’s character. Still very young, she clearly knows what she wants and where her talents lay. Unfortunately, she does make a rather big mistake when she sneaks out of town to meet a big fashion designer in the hopes of snagging a coveted position with his fashion house. She realizes too late that his intentions are not what she expected and she barely makes her escape from his clutches. If that were not enough, she also becomes an unintentional pawn in a jewel smuggling ring. When the bad guys get to her and knock her around, she barely escapes that except for some good Samaritans who brave the bad guys, scaring them off. They also find Jed’s number in her purse and call him. Jed arrives and gets Piper home safely only to face the Mackay men who are livid that Piper snuck out of town, got herself hurt and clearly seems to have a developing relationship with Jed.
Jed and Piper’s relationship clearly had some foundation which was probably expressed in the previous books. She’s had a thing for him since she met him, but both held back for their own reasons. When they finally give in, it’s done well. Ms. Leigh gives us some hot smex with sexy Jed who is shocked but thrilled that Piper has saved herself for him. The mystery of the jewels and their connection to the Mackay’s past is built up and resolved pretty quickly. All in all, a typical “Nauti” story.

Riding To Sunset by Jaci Burton
Jed Templeton is part of the new generation of Wild Riders. This elite group of undercover agents who pose as Harley Riders under the direction of General Grange Lee are given unique assignments that can’t be given to your every day agents. When General Lee’s sister goes missing, he tasks Jed with protecting his niece, Elena Madison. General Lee then moves forward to try and unravel the mystery around his sister’s disappearance.
Jed arrives to find Elena is a very attractive and successful woman who owns a gallery showcasing the artists in her little coastal town. There is an immediate attraction, so Jed easily finds a way to insert himself into Elena’s life without suspicion. But it’s clear that there is more to Elena’s mother’s disappearance when a series of events puts Elena in danger and they are forced to go into hiding.
I happened upon Ms. Burton’s Wilder Riders books a while ago and really enjoyed this band of special agents and the unique tasks assigned to them as they each found their romantic partners along the way. It was fun to revisit this series with the introduction of a new character, Jed Templeton. Handpicked and trained by General Lee himself, he’s the perfect man for the job when General Lee’s sister goes missing. No one knew the General had a sister much less a niece and he’d kept it that way on purpose, knowing his enemies would take any opportunity to hurt him by using people who he loved. His niece, Elena, doesn’t even know she has an uncle, which makes Jed’s job a little difficult.
Elena’s mom has always been a sort of hippie. She did her own thing, never really holding a steady job. She often left Elena with friends, while she went off where the wind took her, following whatever man or thing interested her at that time. So, when Elena doesn’t hear from her for weeks at a time, it doesn’t faze her too much. When her gallery is broken into, she’s grateful for Jed’s help. Further adding to his cover of a securities specialist, Jed uses the opportunity to set up a security system that he can monitor from his place. But when Elena becomes a target, he’s got to come clean and get her to safety.
The romance between Jed and Elena is understandably rocky considering the way they meet and what happens afterward. However, the mystery and suspense builds beautifully and I was shocked at who the bad guy was. Ms. Burton gives us a quality romance and suspenseful plot in this short story and I really liked it.

NOTE: I’m not sure if it was a coincidence that the men of these stories shared the name Jed, but I found it odd and while they were different enough in character, having the same name kind of wreaked havoc in my head as I tried to picture them individually. I didn’t like it at all.
It’s been years since I read this series but I was looking for a quick filler while waiting on a book on hold at the library. I forgot how annoying the overprotectiveness of the brother is. It’s suffocating. I skimmed most of this before finally giving up halfway through. I’m not going to continue with the series.
Piper and Jed are burning up the pages in the novella contained in Nautier and Wilder. A quick and dirty read that will have you reaching for a fan because it is hot! The Wild Riders novella will also be burning up the pages and once again, will have you reaching for your phone so you can get the other five stories in this series. Both stories are good, dramatic, and sexy!
Dawg second sister fell in love with a great guy she goes to new York thinking some of her items she made will be in a fashion show but the only way that's going to happen is if she did somethingshe doesn't want to do and than she gets jewelry that she thought she bought but belonged to bad guts and trouble starts
Interesting and entertaining. Both stories in this volume were fun to read, though they made more sense having read the books prior in both authors’ series’s.
I really liked the first Nauti and Wild anthology, so when I got the next one in the mail, I couldn’t wait to dive back into the Nauti and Wild series. And with two heroes both named Jed, I knew I’d be in for a wild ride!
Nauti Siren by Lora Leigh
Piper has lived under her brothers protective thumb for a year now, and she hates that her every move is scrutinized. So when the chance to get her clothing designs seen by a New York backer, she finds a way to sneak out of town and take the chance of a lifetime. The last thing she expected was to have to call Jed, her sexy neighbor and general badass. When trouble follows her home, Piper is forced to let her brother do what he does best: protect her at all costs.
I’ll admit that I haven’t read all the books in the Nauti series, but the few that I’ve read were decent reads. That being said, I felt so bad for Piper and her sisters, given the way their brother practically smothers them. I understand his protective nature, but his way of offering that protection was so overbearing and obnoxious. Had that been my brother, I would have smacked him upside the head and ran as fast a I could!
One of the things I really enjoyed most about this story was that Jed wanted so desperately to be with Piper, and although he is cut from the same cloth as her brother, he wanted to support her every dream instead of stifling it. While he was constantly on alert to keep her safe, he also wanted her to have the chance to chase after her dreams, as long as she was willing to bring him along for the ride.
I thought Piper was a little too resistant to what Jed was trying to tell her, and she was an extremely hard-headed woman. She refused to take Jed at face value, and then made him jump through hoops to prove himself to her. There were times I wanted to shake her and ask her why she was stringing him along, when it was so obvious that he was different from the other men in her life. But she did finally catch on, and once she did the sparks flew.
I give Nauti Siren a C+
Riding to Sunset by Jaci Burton
Jed is the newest member of the Wild Riders, and when the General asks him to go on a special mission, Jed finds himself having to guard someone the General holds dear: his niece. The mission is simple, keep Elena safe, and don’t let on that she is in danger unless absolutely necessary. Danger finds its way to Elena, and the person he least expects is the one behind it all.
I adore the Wild Riders series. They are over the top, and yet so much fun. I love that we got to see more of the General in this book, because I’ve always wondered about him. It was great to get to see more of his family, and get a little back story into his life. I love that he is completely devoted to keeping his love ones safe, regardless of the cost to his own life and sanity.
Elena was a wonderful heroine. She was sweet and although a little naive, she fought tooth and nail in order to save herself and her mother. She wasn’t one of those heroines who was TSTL, but she also wasn’t afraid to step up when she needed to in order to protect herself. And I thought Jed was great. He wanted to prove himself to the General, and although the man was like a father to him, he was also willing to risk The General’s wrath at the chance with Elena. I loved getting the chance to read about a hero sticking up to someone he respects greatly, for the chance to be with his woman. It was an awesome moment between those two alpha men.
I was blown away by the twists and turns in this short story as well. I was surprised to see who the bad guy was in it all. And yet, I loved the way it turned out. It’s always so special when people surprise you throughout the book.
I will have to say that the way this series ended was a little disappointing. We never got one last look into all the operatives in Wild Riders, so the chance to say goodbye never came. And while I liked that both the General and Jed decided to do something different with their futures, their choice came as a little left field to me.
All in all I really enjoyed the final installment of the Wild Riders series. I loved getting to see another layer to the General, and both Jed and Elena were wonderful characters to read and fall in love with. I’m sad to be saying goodbye to this series.
I just couldn't understand this story. I really debated about giving this story 1 star, but ended up going with 2. I have read all the original nauti boy books and enjoyed them, but this new story was bad. The series has always been a little crazy, but this one really takes the cake for me. At the end I was laughing at how ridiculous it was.
*One issue I had with this is the character Dawg, who is Piper's brother. He is crazy protective and basically has his sisters under lock and key. Lora Leigh has always written alpha heroes to the max but this was just plain crazy. Piper is always under watch by her brother and cousins, to the point that she doesn't date. And she doesn't really understand why she needs to be, and to tell the truth I didn't either. Yes, Dawg has done some dangerous dangerous things to dangerous people but it just seemed ridiculous and so over the top. Piper and her sisters are basically treated by the males in their families as needing to be wrapped in bubbles so that nothing, and I mean nothing can hurt them. And everyone in the book seemed to be defending Dawg!!! It's just insane to me. These girls are prisoners because their brother wants to protect them from any pain.
*The hero Jed also was a little to alpha for me. My biggest problem with him was that he had video cameras left in Piper's room and used them to watch her. The camera's were put in the previous book to protect her sister. I haven't read that book, but I'm not really sure I want to if the hero of the story thinks the only way to protect his lover is to install cameras in her bedroom. Jed was supposed to take them out, but decided he wanted to keep them. This is way too creepy for me. Especially because Piper has no clue about them.
*The plot itself makes no sense to me. I seriously do not fully understand what was going on with the whole jewel trafficking. I could not really understand what was going on with that.
*The heroine, Piper was a total doormat. First, Dawg is afraid to let this girl breathe on her own. Piper sneaks off to go to New York for work (she designs clothes and has a meeting with a designer). The meeting goes bad but Piper is able to the get herself out of there. Later, she accidentally finds jewels involved with a mob connection (don't ask, like I said it makes no sense to me). Basically it boils down to a wrong place, wrong time scenario. However, every single male character seems to think Piper deliberately set out to get in trouble and treats her like a child because what happened. It is so insulting to Piper. The hero, Jed, tells her to stop acting like a child when she gets the guts to question why she needs to let Dawg control her life. What I really hated though, is at the end, it is not Jed or Piper's family who thinks she deserves an explanation about why all these bad things were happening to her, but a total stranger. However, at this point Piper, after struggling the whole story to fight against Dawg's control does a complete 180 and decides he's right and she doesn't need to be treated like an adult, leaves and lets the men handle the situation. Ugggh. Lora Leigh has written some strong female characters who can go toe to toe with her alpha heroes but Piper is not one. And I can not get over the fact that Piper agrees at the end that Dawg is right. It's insulting.
This story was not good. I found it insulting to the female character. It also seemed like it was not edited well. The story contradicts itself many times and doesn't make sense in some parts. At one point Dawg tells Piper she will always be in danger because of the covert life she and her sisters live. I have no clue what that was about because Piper designs clothes and helps her mom run a inn; she is not going around tracking down bad guys. Lets not get in to the point that Dawg would never allow Piper to actually do anything that would give herself a paper cut. This story is just not worth reading.
Riding to Sunset
This story was 3 stars for me. It was okay with nothing really special about it. I have read all the other Wild Rider stories and really enjoyed some of them, but this one was missing something special. I think the hero could have done with a different name too ( why both heroes were named Jed, I do not understand). I think the story suffered by coming second in the book, because I was burned out after reading the first story.
Nauti girls / sister #2 / Piper Mackay - dress designer/dreamer - truly getting pissed at Dawg et al for their overprotective ways - staying away from Jed as she can see he could so easily be like Dawg...
Jedediah Booker, United States Protective Service agent (to protect US assets), undercover as contractor (as part of his father's real construction company)...
Jed appreciates that Piper needs freedom to make her own choices, as difficult as it is... but comes to her rescue when the hospital calls... and once he rescues her, he's not letting go.
She secretly goes to NY to show her designs to Eldon Vessante - who says if she cooperates in his bedroom, he'll set her up with her own fashion show... she says no... and since the trip is no longer paid for, she returns her rental car, and goes to check out of the hotel... her chotkeys (rhinestones, fake jewels, sequins for her designs) fall on the floor of the rental car, and she sweeps them all up... not realizing that real jewels smuggled in from Russian were under the back seat, and get mixed in with her purchases... the bad guys want them back... when she is expecting the bell hop, the muscle comes in, knocks her around - she screams and screams (as Dawg taught her), and just as she passes out, the thug runs out when the guys in room next door rush in ... Jed comes to the hospital for her... and he's not leaving her...
All comes out and Jed & Dawg set a trap... and catch the bad guys... and as Piper is waiting to see what happened, she finally understands Dawg's fear and overprotectiveness... and Jed helps her to see how to teach Dawg (and herself) how to safely assert herself...
introduces Broecun - double agent via the mafia... love interest for one of the 2 sisters left.
Riding to Sunset - Jaci Burton Jed Templeton - ex special forces, new man on General Grange Lee's Wild Riders... a year in, he's passed his tests... and Grange sends him to watch over his niece, Elena Madison...
Grange has kept away from his sister and her daughter (Elena doesn't even know about him) to protect them... but his sister has been missing for a month...
Carla (sister/ mom) is a hippy, always off for adventures, sometimes with daughter and sometimes leaving daughter with friends... elena has taken the opposite road, buying a gallery on the beach (with balance of money coming from her mom, who got it from her brother) and living in the apartment above...
And Jed shows up... buys something... befriends her... is there when there is a break in to her store, and the next night someone in her apartment... and then he all but kidnaps her, takes her to her uncle in a safe house... ends up the owner of the safe house, Grange's war buddy who secretly hated Grange, blaming him for his wife's death, as he Grange was late to relieve him, making him late to pick up his wife, who was then victim of terrorism and died... and the buddy had kidnapped Carla... and when Jed and Grange leave to follow a fake clue, then buddy throws Elena in with her mom... they takes them both off the island... to a house that rigged to explode - timing for when Grange would get there... but Elena manages to get their handcuffs unlocked, and out the window... and running away... chased ... Jed and Grange to the rescue...
and Grange decides to retire, and jed joins him - a boat chartering... and he's not leaving elena for danger again...

(Aug) It's been a long while since I read anything by Lora Leigh - while I never was a fan of the Breed books (tried one or two, just didn't thrill me) I love her August books, Nauti books, etc. This was nowhere near as Nauti as most of the other books I've read by her, which is fine. But OMG, did I find Dawg over-the-top annoying - and the other women were just as selfish. I seemed to have missed the beginning of this Nauti Sister's series, so I had no idea Dawg has long lost sisters. In trying to protect them from the dangers his life and line of work bring to everyone, he ends up treating the girls like, well, little girls. The idea that Piper had to sneak away to NYC, could not stand up for herself to her brother or her mother, and was later on told by her mom and the wives of Dawg, Rowdy, and Natches how selfish she was for taking the trip and not telling anyone what happened, not sharing w/Dawg. Ugh - this whole story frustrated me because Dawg comes across as mentally unbalanced (if life is so dangerous, quit what you do, move away, get a normal life maybe?)and no one can see how wrong he is, how right Piper is for wanting a normal, protection free life. She is being left in the dark, treated like a child - and come on, couldn't she have met w/the designer in NYC, had it been a huge success, and still have the whole gem-mix up storyline worked in? Instead she has to be shown as being rash, headstrong, and then she got screwed - and beat up - and see, Dawg was right. Blech! Not sure I have any interest in following this series, if it's all going to be "oh, silly girl, do whatever Dawg says so he can sleep at night and I'll protect you and smother you and it doesn't matter that you'll be lost and miserable because Dawg will be ok." I even got annoyed at Jed, an otherwise pretty good Hero, when he said "Piper, you were being protected for a reason" and she said "For a reason i was never allowed to understand...maybe, Jed, if something - anything - had been explained to me, then i would have been more prone to listen a little more closely." His response? "Now you're sounding like a child." Really?! Ugh and blech!
Have only read one other Jaci Burton motorcycle gang books, and that too was a novella. I found it odd that in this anthology both heros a) were named Jed and b) were creepy in wiring and watching the heroine w/o her knowledge. This story was definitely better than the LL one - even if it is a part of a series, it could be read as a stand alone and the alph-male BS didn't get so thick you couldn't even stand up! Good, nothing special, nothing that makes me want to run back and read this series from the first.
