I've been a nomad for most of the XXI century (IT consultant) and was curious to read this book to learn something new.
It was interesting and there's plenty information as it's not easy to work as a travelling freelance
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This is a quick easy guide to some of the things people will need to consider when contemplating taking on life as a digital nomad. It gives a good balance of the pros and cons of such a lifestyle, as well as useful tips about being ready ahead of deadlines that I guess most of us could take on board, regardless of where and when we work.

For me, a couple of things were missing completely or not covered in enough depth. Clearly, the author has been able to continue doing the sort of work she did in the USA whilst she's on the road but I would have hoped to see more advice on the type of work that other people should consider or skills they need to develop to make the most of this style of work-life. There's also not much about how a person might navigate their way back to the 'real world' after a stint of nomadic life.

It's a lot easier to take off around the world with the security of a fully remote job that accepts you working from anywhere, than trying to find work whilst you're already on the road.

I enjoyed the book but felt it could have offered more advice about finding work.

In "How to Be a Digital Nomad," Kayla Ihrig takes readers on a transformative journey, challenging the notion that a successful career requires sacrificing one's desire to explore the world. With over 35 million digital nomads already embracing this lifestyle, Ihrig's book serves as a beacon of inspiration, offering practical insights and guidance to those yearning for a work-life balance that spans the globe.

Each chapter is a well-crafted blend of information and application, featuring exercise questions that encourage readers to reflect on their own goals and aspirations. How to Be a Digital Nomad is a hugely useful how to guide - comprehensive, encouraging and detailed. Written by a woman who left her corporate job in 2017 to travel and work, she's therefore someone writing from personal experience, and that shows.

Covering a myriad of topics including banking, how to work in the digital world while roaming and travel days, the detail is comprehensive but also inspiring. As someone who would like to take the plunge and join the nomad lifestyle, the book has prepared me well for that step and is one I will return to again and again,

I appreciated that Ihrig is honest about a few of the potential downsides of the lifestyle and doesn't pretend that everything is easy or perfect. I highly recommend the book as a bible for anyone considering becoming a digital nomad.

The author strikes a great balance between inspiring you to believe you can pursue digital nomadism (positioning herself as your friend who has already done it), and giving you straight talk about the challenges one can encounter in such a life.

The book is well structured, sharing a variety of options open to you, alongside practical considerations. The author offers useful exercises to try and questions to ask yourself to help you choose your path.

Even if you are not going to go down this road yourself, this book will help you see why and how others do it.

My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my feedback.

The work-from-anywhere phenomenon is something city planners like me are trying to figure out. Kayla does a great job digging into this growing new life/work style in a no-nonsense but fun way that makes her work easy to read and learn from. The organization of the text makes sense and tackles some of the difficult topics about "life on the road" by relaying her own experiences in a funny but instructive style. I don't think I am ready to pack up my laptop and buy some plane tickets, but if I do gather the courage it will be due to what Ms. Ihrig has done here. Great job and thank you for giving us a window into new way to think about work!

So there isn't much here at all about actually finding work but this book is a good place to start for someone who is considering becoming a digital nomad. It's organized logically into sections explaining the kinds of things you need to consider and decide on before starting, with advice on everything from accomodations to travel to long-term goals.
There's a lot to think about here, and it's definitely made me more hopeful that maybe this is something I could do.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

I thought that this would be an interesting book given the premise of how to be a digital nomad and it certainly didn't disappoint. There is certainly a lot of aspects to consider if you wish to embark on this sort of career adventure and Ihrig handles it with care. I think what also added to the book is not only does she talk about her experiences, she also weaves in experiences of other seasoned digital nomads.

With 35 million (!) digital nomads who are living, working and exploring to the world it is apparent that you don't need to sacrifice your career to travel the world.

How to Be a Digital Nomad sets out strategies, and shares tips and advise on how to build build a successful career without having to be in a traditional office 9 to 5.

Ihrig has created a fab handbook where she freely shares her own as well as other travellers' experience of a nomad lifestyle.

The triangle of freedom: achieve freedom with regards to location, time and finances.

Even if you're not planning on becoming a digital nomad, the book includes many great pointers on how to get the most out of any working life - office based or nomadic. It challenges the 'normal' we are used to, although what is 'normal' has definitely changed following COVID.

‘No one regrets travelling’

Ihring also include practical check lists, e.g. back up your work, pack a vomit bag, don't impulse buy things, always carry US Dollars, etc. etc.

How to Be a Digital Nomad by Kayla Ihrig will be published tomorrow, 30 January 2024. I was given an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Many people wish they could travel the world, but work gets in the way. One cannot get off to travel due to schedules, deadlines, and the unending work that has to be done. However, there is a way to become a digital nomad - working while traveling around the world. Kayla Ihrig writes about her experience becoming a digital nomad and presents ways that her readers can do the same. Being a digital nomad is working online with no set place to work; one can work in a coffee shop in France, or one can work wherever there is a solid wifi connection around the world. Ihrig explains the similarities that one can experience as a digital nomad and as a worker in one location: burnout can happen. One can overwork themselves and not get to see what they traveled to see. Ihrig shares how to plan becoming a digital nomad, how to keep your career growing as a digital nomad, and how to manage your finances while being a digital nomad. In each chapter Ihrig gives little exercises to help readers develop their plan to become a digital nomad. Ihrig also shares a timeline of what to do in each step of becoming a digital nomad and safety tips. How to Be a Digital Nomad is a great resource for those wishing to travel and work their way around the world. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I found this book to be a competent guide for people who are thinking of living as a nomad.

It is well organized by different topics and situations that people may find themselves in, and gives valuable information on what things to prepare for.

To be transparent, I don't think there was enough reflection on what this lifestyle may or may not mean to people of color who are traveling to some of these cities in the hopes of living there permanently or temporarily.

In addition to local customs, there needs to be more information on understanding local laws.

After reading it I felt better prepared and more informed on what steps I need to take and the information I need to investigate to transition to this lifestyle.

First I would like to thank to NetGalley, the publisher and author for offering me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I thought it was a good book, easy to read with very interesting facts and advice if you ever want to take this road of being a digital nomad.

As nice as it sounds and exciting to be in a different country and still working, after reading the book I reached the point where I can see that digital nomadism requires a lot of planning and just to be happy to get out of your comfort zone at any moment.

Some of the advice in the book I feel can be applied to normal life as well so overall I enjoyed the book.

Definitely interesting book to explore the concept of remote work and travel combined. This may be a comfortable settings with dream of travel and freelance occupation while learning from real life situations, managing your budget on the go and getting experience you will never have by residing in a single location. This is a completely different approach to life and mindset. The book helps to explore the idea of being a digital nomads via remote work and enjoy new locations and experiences on the go. This is a comprehensive guide that helps to manage different areas of this type of lifestyle.

I wouldn't normally have picked this book up off the shelf, but I had the chance to read it in preparation for a podcast interview with Kayla Ihrig, and I was delightfully surprised!

The book is an honest, inspiring and thoughtful exploration of the digital nomad lifestyle. What I loved most about it was how Kayla brings so much nuance and practicality to exploring the day-to-day life of being a digital nomad. She does a brilliant job of peeling back the curtain to show what life as a digital nomad (beyond the beach selfies we see on instagram) is really like.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone curious about the lifestyle.

Reviewed from the perspective of someone working remote/hybrid in tech I found this book really helpful for planning my move to self employed consultancy in the digital nomad landscape. This was written in such an engaging way, easy to digest and broken down in a way to take a topic I was finding overwhelming to look at as a whole and breaking it down in to manageable steps. Highly recommend to fellow remote/hybrid workers in tech looking to get themselves out in to the world and find better work/life balance.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

This is a really interesting read for anyone considering the digital nomad lifestyle. It's full of practical and useful tips. It doesn't mythologise the digital nomad lifestyle or talk down to the reader but rather sets out all the things to consider, including whether this lifestyle might be right for you, and how long for.

Definitely worth a read before making the leap!

A practical manual for anyone considering ditching their worldly possessions and creature comforts to pursue the dream of traveling the globe and working as a digital nomad. The lifestyle isn't always the glamorous, highly edited reels you see on your social media every day, but it can prove to be a deeply profound experience that otherwise would've felt out of reach.

Working as a Digital Nomad since 2017, the author paints a pragmatic picture of both realities.

“How to Be a Digital Nomad” by Kayla Ihrig had good ideas and things to think about. It was good because there was a bunch of good information. I do think I felt like some of it was out of touch with some people’s skills pertaining to what jobs and careers they need to be doing while being a digital nomad. 3 out of 5 stars.

What an honest and authentic launchpad into the life of a digital nomad. Felt like somewhat of a cheat code in getting set up and prepped for things you just wouldn’t expect on the nomadic path. Twists, turns, humor and word for word blueprints that you can snag! This is a trusty pocket guide for sure! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge Kayla - 10/10

With first-hand accounts from actual digital nomads (of all types) this book will definitely give you a lens into the lifestyle. It details both the travel side and the work side and accurately reflects both the benefits and pain points of digital nomadism. It’s a great read especially for those who don’t want to compromise their career but want to find more opportunities to travel and/break out of the status quo.

I liked reading this book. It highlighted how the freedom to work from anywhere is not a new concept but started decades ago. This book is a great motivational and informational guide for those looking to unlock numerous life opportunities since our income can be as mobile as we are.

I really love this book from Kayla as it breaks down the individual parts of being a digital nomad. There are some fantastic tips here on getting started, and Kayla's personal journey is inspiring, too. Kayla's research into different topics helps the reader understand the many different types of digital nomads and how niche it is for each person. Thanks, Kayla, and great work for putting this book out there to help people act on their dreams.

Genuinely useful and wide ranging book covering the hows (and whys in some cases) of being a digital nomad. Found it did not cover the downsides enough / needed a few examples of those that struggled, but does have some gems of advice. Recommended

I'm intrigued by digital nomadism and this book has ignited something, I'm just not sure what... Yet!
