The TV show took an average novel and tightened up the story, made changes to some of the problematic elements and was so much more compelling than the book. I had no emotional attachment to anything that happened in the book or to any of the characters. In contrast I was deeply involved in the TV show.(less)

When she sprang Kovacs from the clinic where he was being tortured, that made sense, because she was collecting him on Reileen's orders, and then when she rescued him from the fight with Kadmin at the Panama Rose, I presume that was because Reileen was pissed that Kadmin had disobeyed her again. Remember Reileen was big on keeping her word,and she had told Kovacs she'd keep him in line. But that last moment when she helped him on board Head in the Clouds... there's no explaining that one.
