Is the nickname 'Sassenach' overused in this book, too???? Thanks, I am starting it today (after football)...

I'm only on page 213 of Voyager, so there hasn't been any interaction between Claire and Jamie yet. I have read other complaints about the overuse of this term, but I don't feel that way about it. It's a term of endearment that Jamie first uses with Claire in a teasing sort of way, to let her know that she is an outsider to the clan MacKenzie. However, as their relationship evolves and they get married, it's just a pet name, like "honey" or "sweetheart." I think it's more appropriate than a generic term because Claire is a unique character, as both an outlander and a time traveler. I think it also serves as a reminder to Jamie that he is so very fortunate to have ended up in a relationship with this unique woman; he worships her! Although the word appears very frequently on the pages of the book, I do not find it to be overused. If you watch the series on STARZ, and you hear and see Jamie each time he calls Claire "Sassenach," you might feel differently about it. (less)

Did anyone else have trouble with the fact that Claire ran right into Jamie as soon as she returned to Scotland? I was so looking forward to at least half a book of adventure as she tried to find him again, and instead she walked right into him as soon as she arrived! From that point on I felt at least the first half of the book was just a romp of adventures and had lost the spark of the previous novels.

Did I miss something about Laoghaire? **SPOILERS** I knew from reading spoilers that Jamie would marry her, and considering her obsession with him earlier, I felt that the story of her refusing him their whole marriage to be implausible and poorly explained. I did not read the first two books, btw, so maybe I missed something. How did she stop wanting him so much? Was it only that she "knew" he didn't love her?
