They just happen. I've met some writers who can schedule books, but my problem is this: I'll never have enough time to write all of the novels in my head. Actually-- is that really a problem?
I'm writing four novels right now, and I do, at the start, see the entire story arc. Some of the twists and turns are from how the characters react to each other. In that sense, some of the novels are wholly organic.

I speak in public for a living, so in terms of preparation, it concluded when I put on a clean shirt. I really love books and readers, so a Con is pure opportunity to geek out allllll day and talk about books. Regarding materials/supplies: Get a couple of sharpies. Get some high quality bookmarks and postcards, and let readers pre-order your books. Then order more to have on hand-- given your genre, I'd have 40 at minimum, and the beauty of books? They don't spoil. I have a nice banner, too, but that's primarily because I'm so proud of my artists and their stellar work.

I have 4 novels published so far. Should I have 40 of each on hand or some mix of 40 total as a minimum? Also, how do you "let readers pre-order"? Yes

I'm more concerned with not having enough than having too many. I'm not even close to being a public speaker. Do you have any pointers there? You have some amazing covers. So, showing them off is expected. :D

The first time a reader asked me a question I couldn't answer, I was floored. To see someone love what I've created and give me the donation of their time? Incredible.

Don't talk, write. Don't do social media, write. Then edit, and then edit again. Writing is work that happens to bring an internal joy like no other, but it's still work. As with any skill, you will get better, and you'll grow.

I don't get writer's block, I run out of time. The issue for me is winnowing the material into one, clear narrative. I sense that because I began writing after I'd lived a little, I've got some stories in reserve.

Two books. Book four in "The Fearless" is nearly complete, and will be available in September 2014. I'm writing my second series as well, a post-apocalyptic dragon adventure set in the remains of the United States. I love the characters. I will release the first novel of this series in the early part of 2015.

If you see someone standing in a public place with a furrowed brow, they're not lost-- they might be a writer. Everything I see ends up being processed, kneaded, and baked into a book.
