The return of the second Paper Mario game has got a lot of all-in Nintendo fans incredibly excited. To this day, The Thousand-Year Door is regarded as the best the series has produced, and even though Nintendo innovated with paintbrushes and stickers, nothing worked quite like the GameCube classic.
Fans are expecting a lot from its long-awaited remake, and now, details pouring out about the game itself mean players are even more excited about what could come further down the road.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has 4K support
A blogger digging around in The Thousand-Year Door's files has spotted that the upcoming remake has the potential to offer 4K visuals, even though the Switch doesn't support them in any form.
On an obscure site, user Rib has shared lines of code that indicate that The Thousand-Year Door remake offers an opportunity to those with the hardware to set their game to a 4K resolution. The code itself makes reference to the values 2160 and 3840, being the width of a 4K display by pixels.
This might seem like a bit of vague future-proofing, but that's probably what makes this reveal so fascinating. With the next Nintendo home console on the horizon, fans have wondered about its potential to support 4K visuals and whether we'll be able to play our existing Switch games on it.
The Nintendo Switch's successor is yet to receive a full reveal, so it remains to be seen whether that rumoured backward compatibility will arrive as a major selling point. It definitely feels like a good start, though, especially for fans of Paper Mario. The next generation of Nintendo gaming is coming, and we genuinely can't wait for it.
