A truly extraordinarily compelling story about internet nerds trying at any cost to find the killer of kittens, who later turns out to be a serial killer. There’s detailed analysis of photos, videos, stalking all sorts of sites to find out the identity of the perpetrator, but so well presented that you are literally drawn into the investigation and made to think along with them. Netflix has a solid documentary notch that builds up to the end while combining an interesting investigation with a deft filmmaking style. A shocking film that I wasn't exactly expecting here, it holds the attention and doesn't slacken in pace - awesome ()
Decent, but I have my complaints. For a documentary, there's a decent pace, great music and it's surprisingly quite suspenseful. What bothered me, though, is that it focuses on amateur detectives, i.e. internet nerds who have nothing else to do but follow someone else's life. That's a bit of a turn off for me, I'd rather watch real detectives whose work is definitely more interesting. It's also disappointing that they don't explicitly show the content of the video when everyone in the documentary could see it, I don't know why the viewer can’t see it too. And one last complaint, I don't really like why a man who killed one person is called a butcher and serial killer, what was Night Stalker then? The finale is quite interesting and quite unexpected, I enjoyed it, but I liked Night Stalker better. 7.5/10: ()
I don't understand why I've been putting off this thing for so long. After a very long time, a documentary that has momentum, unnecessarily doesn't stretch the duration with unnecessary facts, and the speeches of the local actors here are decisive, interesting, successful in creating a wow effect for the viewer. Clearly, it's a bit dramatized by focusing all attention on amateur internet detectives and professional work is somewhat overlooked, but that's the uniqueness of this documentary. Events are depicted here that one wouldn't believe until they really have evidence of them. And that is another strong point of this super project: authenticity. Usually, the viewer only hears and sees little. But here, the narrative is detailed and accompanied by video recordings, photographs, internet posts, guiding the viewer really from beginning to end without skipping or gaps in events, and that's why it has such an amazing pace. The only slightly negative point that could be seen here is the fact that toxic homicidal videos are not explicitly shown, but when it comes to animals, it's actually more of a benefit and thanks to that, it is accessible even to a broader audience or those with weaker stomachs. A must-see on Netflix. ()
The documentary is engaging enough that even though I only planned to watch one episode, I ended up watching all three episodes in one sitting. Granted, I have a lot of things waiting to get done, but I just had to see how that as*hole would be punished. I don't have the slightest sympathy for anyone who even thinks about abusing an animal, so I only went into the series because I knew beforehand that I wouldn't see much of the kitten abuse. Still, I found the first episode challenging at one point. And that's why I just can't give it five stars. ()
