This isn't a TV show, this is a world treasure. Definitely the most engaging, funniest and best thing to come out of cinema in the 21st century, because to hold that standard for four seasons and to excel in every aspect is simply beyond anything other than The Boys. I want a fifth season right now because I really can't wait for it. ()
The Boys has managed to maintain the quality for the fourth time. Although there is no significant villain and Homelander is again carrying it (well, it's easily noticeable when he's not on the scene at all). The characters, however, are still interesting, and when it comes to the gore it's a really effective delight, and they've added quite a bit to the perversion, which I applaud. The flying sheep and chickens were the best, that was a really brilliant idea. The ending is shaping up to be pretty big stuff, the connection to Gen V will be nice and the finale of season 5 will be a properly epic slaughter with probably a lot of dead on both sides too. 8/10. ()
After the attack on Trump and Biden’s Covid, Homelander's electoral travails may seem petty to us, yet The Boys has hit the current political mood perfectly. Unfortunately, Kripke commissioned the scripts during the strike (I can't explain it any other way), and the quality of the early episodes looks accordingly. Weird dialogue, bumbling heroes, uninteresting subplots. The crappy line Frenchie, completely disconnected from everything and leading to nowhere, the downright annoying Mother's Milk acting like an asshole, and the relegated Billy, who they're probably saving for last. So it's up to Homelander and his bloodbath to save the day. Antony Starr is fantastic in the role and I'm looking forward to the final clash from the bottom of my heart. The fourth season was pretty much a bust though, except for the very last episode. ()
The Boys series unsurprisingly did not lose anything in its brutality, on the contrary, the creators may have come up with even greater atrocities. And with each passing season, the question arises whether the plot is being stretched too thin or if the creators don't know what to do with some characters and the initial magic is simply gone. To a certain extent, this also applies to Band, at the halfway point of the series, I occasionally had tired looks during the entire hour-long episodes and wondered when Homelander would finally take them all out and the final fifth season would focus on other characters. The main showdown, of course, awaits us in two years (I'm glad that producer Kripke and others do not have a tendency to endlessly stretch despite constant high viewership), and I just hope that some major events are still left in the comic book issues. In conclusion, I was quite looking forward to my favorite Jeffrey Dead (haha) Morgan, who was originally supposed to appear in the third season, but unfortunately his character didn't suit me too well and I was rather hoping he would refresh some abilities from Watchmen, which did not happen. So maybe next time he still has something up his sleeve with Butcher. ()
The creators seamlessly followed up on the second half of the previous season with the fourth series, especially when it came to quality. Out of the eight episodes, I enjoyed (with reservations) only three, and out of these three, the finale of the series was clearly the best. The creators are evidently running out of inventive ideas; good ideas were only evident in the field of character development, and the violent scenes, which I used to enjoy, seemed overly gratuitous here. A quality plot, I think, could fit into four episodes and maybe it would have to be slightly refined to maintain the desired length of the episodes. / Lesson learned: Too much politics damages taste.
