A father is trying to find his daughter, so he uses her ex-boyfriend to do it. Yes, this plot alone is somewhat perplexing, not to mention the strange situations that pile up on top of each other. But within the logic of the film, it works quite well. The message at the end is quite strange, and if it weren't for the interesting actors, you'd feel like completely ditching it. ()
A demanding ex-almost-father-in-law and his ex-almost-son-in-law embark on a night adventure for mutual enrichment. There is hardly any humor, the script lacks creativity, the characters are generally unsympathetic, and J.K. Simmons often seems bored. At times, it even looked like someone in a very high-quality latex mask of J.K. Simmons, slightly wrinkled at the neck, was playing his part. This might have marked the beginning of Emile Hirsch's period of scraping by, which could soon culminate in a comedy where he and Jack Black play Siamese twins with musical talent. ()
