A good comedy where surprisingly even Vince Vaughn didn't bother me, whom I currently can't stand. Will Ferrell is exactly the kind of goofball one wishes for, and he isn't annoying, which is his issue nowadays. Story-wise, it's not particularly original, but it's nice that the romance is more of a side plot here. It entertains, but for me, Old School isn't a particularly stunning film. ()
Comedies about guys who are approaching their third decade and realize that their best years are behind them, but refuse to accept it, have been made plenty of times. Old School, however, is original in its own way. Original in the form of a group of guys who decided to break free from social stereotypes and live life on their own terms. Director Todd Phillips has a good hand for comedies like this. Road Trip - teenagers, Starsky & Hutch - a gentle parody of the classic series. Audiences shouldn't look for anything in Old School. People should just get on the boat and trust the captain to show him all the places during the journey along the rivers called "Stereotype and Cliché." Don't worry about the story. As the film appears at the beginning, so it ends. It’s funny, dry, silly, awkward, but never boring. There's always something to see. Well, not always because a naked Will Ferrell running down the street is really... Actually, it belongs in the "embarrassing" column. Luke Wilson's acting is about the same as that of his brother Owen (the same faces). Yet the unassuming Vince Vaughn has been in the spotlight for a while now, and I have to admit that while his acting may not be extraordinary, he possesses a cute comedic charm. He has one of the most charismatic voices in Hollywood. Old School will be fun for all those who do not try to find something in it. And if they do, they'll probably be disappointed. ()
A juvenile comedy where the creators also squeezed in romantic elements, so it was inevitable to hit those worst, time-worn clichés. The humor often bordered on tasteless, leading to some cringeworthy moments. However... Despite all my criticisms, I found myself chuckling quite often, or at least smiling goofily, because it was actually pretty fun. Simple, straightforward, undemanding, predictable fun, and I'd be a hypocrite if I rated it lower than three stars. / Lesson learned: Never, never, never, never, never try for a surprise return home. At least make a call. ()
Vince Vaughn makes me laugh the moment I see him, his expression, his huge build, and mischievous smile place him among the best comedians. However, *You've Got Mail* is not one of his most successful comedy films, such as *Dodgeball*, *The Break-Up,* or *Wedding Crashers*. The topic reminded me of *Cool Runnings*, which was filmed a bit later, so it's not possible to talk about stealing the idea, but it seems to me that the creators failed to "squeeze out" the maximum potential even though they had such a decent trio of comedians complemented by the villain Piven. Some jokes were hilarious like in *Dodgeball*, while others unfortunately fell flat. However, Vince Vaughn did not disappoint me, but next time I will prefer to watch *Dodgeball*. ()
Another cheap comedy that has a few good jokes, but as a whole is woefully bland, forgettable and with a boring plot that I won't remember it tomorrow. I expected more, especially from Todd Phillips and the combination of Will Ferrel and Vince Vaughn... ()
