Very strange film, superficially it could be dismissed with a comment like - "another gloomy film from Sweden, just a little weird". The Crown Jewels act quite atypically, in several scenes I was thinking, "this is crazy, insane, or is it an attempt at a non-traditional approach to magical realism in film". The film cannot be denied a certain poetics, which is negatively reflected in the screenplay, in the story, which is sometimes even fantastic. The biggest plus? Alicia, without a doubt, you can watch her anytime, anywhere. ()
It was with great pleasure that I let myself be carried away on the waves of fantasy by this modern Nordic fairy tale. It is an incredibly strange film full of poetry, life's sadness, and atmospheric scenes. Not everything always suited me, but I'm not going to dwell on the minor flaws after all the beauty. (80%) ()
The Crown Jewels is an extremely strange movie. You can find every existing genre in it. Sometimes that can hurt, but in this case it is rather quite good. The best part is that it is filmed really properly and every scene shows the quality of the movie. The actors are great, the locations are flawless, only the story takes a while before you get used to it. Once you do, you can’t leave it. After the first half an hour the film goes by quickly and suddenly it ends. As a Scandinavian movie it obviously can’t lack the hardships of day-to-day life. You will encounter them here, but as it is far beyond the line of Scandinavian absurdity, which by the way is already stretched, it is quite manageable. ()
A great film with a strong story told in the style of Amelie or Big Fish. Absurdity and exaggeration balance the rawness and brutality of what happens over two hours, and the atmosphere is hard to describe, just like the perfect acting and a careful script full of metaphors that flow so magically to a beautiful end.
