It's a great film and even greater in its director's cut five-hour version. I saw the shorter, four-hour version, and it didn't particularly appeal to me in terms of storytelling. Napoleon's fate is quite well-known, and it probably won't surprise you that much. It's well-shot, with excellent build-up in some scenes, but here the form is simply more important. Some of the cross-fades are simply excellent, as well as the use of color filters. The film is beautifully shot and some of the shots are breathtaking. As a film lover, I was amazed, but as a lover of stories, I wasn't quite as impressed.
