One of the best modern fairy tales - and perhaps the very best - whose sequel I would rather forget. It’s a great fantasy story that combines traditional fairy tale characters in one world - yes, there's a hint of connection to Arabella - and there are only great actors here. There’s an incredibly good selection for each role, and it's basically a win-win whichever one you choose. Plus, there's the beautiful soundtrack as well. I sometimes sing the theme song because it's just so catchy. ()
The original The Girl on the Broomstick is a satirical modern fairy tale, working with themes of young love, situational humor and the then very popular clash between the supernatural and the present. The acting is dominated by the Menšík and Bláha generation, with only Jan Hrušínský standing out from the younger generation. Petra Černocká did not move out from Saxana's shadow, Kraus exchanged his former field of expertise for the current one, Zavřel fell into the episodic actor category, and there are no further traces of Hejný in the film (due to his emigration). Today, the sequel is titled Little Witch on a Broomstick, with new characters and a major change that makes it a film not for teenagers, but rather for children. It's too bad that we don't find a similar treasure in the second film like the epilog by Meda Valentová. Adolf Born's charming opening credits were replaced by modern special effects, which, on the other hand, is a natural phenomenon 40 years later. ()
