(Aurora)

angielski A sober drama set in rural Belgium about children coming of age and teenage trauma. There are two storylines, with surprisingly the most being the flashback from childhood, which also takes more time. All in all it's more of a three star affair for me, where the final impression is improved by the ending in the barn, which won't be very pleasant for the girls, but isn't as explicit and brutal as other users mention. Anyway, a film about how children's games can result in tragedy. The acting was good, shot okay for a debut, didn't get boring, so I'll throw in a weaker four. 70% ()

angielski Eagerly awaited the rest of the film from Karlovy Vary, which, according to the ratings, got me excited like crazy. However, in the end, it didn't have the effect I had envisioned. The substance is undoubtedly strong, unpleasant, and sensitive, but either I was expecting a slightly different direction of the story, or a bit more explicitness and rawness, or generally a different screenplay approach. It wouldn't have mattered if something completely different had emerged from it, but the first fact that I can't get past is that the main heroine in adulthood and her performance/expression really ruins the main heroine in flashbacks (which is the same character, where the child actress nailed the role with bravura). The adult version annoyed me incredibly with her overacting and monotonous, dull expression. On one hand, I understand her reasons, if it was intentional, but on the other hand, because of this fact and the total mismatch with the character's nature, the whole movie became somewhat repulsive to me. The scene with the microphone on stage seemed really poorly executed and completely missed the mark. So, great scenes from childhood, but almost a flop for the adult scenes. I dare say that the transition between the two was not well connected, and if it was just about that one moral message, it could have been done better. However, I do not intend to diminish the discussed topic. Overall, it was a disappointment compared to expectations. ()

angielski A hard-hitting drama about growing up in the Belgian countryside. The traumatized present is mixed with the innocence of childhood memories, where all innocence slowly fades away, and once the turning points come, it becomes a really depressing watch; quite devastating in the last part. I could imagine a slightly more viable ending, but I respect the creative decision. ()
