Samenvattingen(1)

Two kids from Prague (Anička Čtvrtníčková and Jáchym Dimov) are coming to Wallachia to spend summer holidays with their Grandpa (František Segrado). Children's busy parents (David Suchařípa and Petra Hřebíčková) send their kids to Wallachia with best intentions at heart: they hope to show them a world different from the virtual world of the Internet, mobile phones and tablets; the life in a Wallachian village which has its own, distinct rules. The discovery of forgotten treasure in the attic of Grandpa's house is the starting point of a mysterious journey though the traditions of the old-time Wallachia, from spring time to winter. Engels Deda is almost a cute amateur attempt to make a Wallachian film. The creative team apparently went into the project wearing their hearts on their sleeves but skipped working with a professional crew when raising funds. I'm sorry to say that it could have been a great family film, but it only made it halfway there. The supporting roles by Suchařípa, Hřebíčková, or Polívka and Čtvrtníček, are not a sufficient connection for a professional film. ()

Engels It's not a great film, but it's not stupidly funny like some Czech films manage to be. It's kind of positive, everything is okay here, and that's what I really liked about it. It's like living like this isn't normally possible, but maybe someone really does live like that. Some parts were unnecessary (pregnancy, Čtvrtníček), but otherwise, I liked the film. ()
