With the opening of an airport in their capital city, the population of the non-recognised state of Nagorno-Karabakh hopes to gain international support. Airport inspector Alain, who is supposed to produce the final expert report upon which approval of the facility depends, finds himself in a difficult predicament. Should he insist the regulations of the air traffic authority be met and write a negative report, or should he support the population, with which he clearly sympathises, in their struggle for independence? In a quiet and haunting fashion, Should the Wind Drop ponders this dilemma, whose current, real-life background has long gone virtually unnoticed. The film positions itself calmly between the territorial claims of Armenia and Azerbaijan, while cultivating an aesthetic that embodies a wish for peace, for freedom and hope. Still, in spite of its gentle tone, the film does not relinquish its role as a space for confrontation, which enables it to serve as a relevant political statement.
