Cher, Liam Neeson and Dennis Quaid were the reason why I started watching this film. I wasn’t expecting any miracles, but I did like that 80’s atmosphere of American movies of that time, which is typical not only because of the actors, but also thanks to high-quality Czech dubbing. The story isn’t too bad, either, but Suspect is mainly a court drama, which is nothing that would draw crowds. On the other hand, there’s Dennis Quaid, who every now and then runs down to the basement and creates some suspense. But it’s more about the unravelling, which is actually more than shocking in the end. A good easy flick, which is ideal for a Monday evening. ()
What a group of characters! Over time, the growing younger Neeson as the accused, who must use an electronic pen in court, his eager defense attorney Cher, whose scripted dullness doesn’t allow her to immediately reveal the background of the cut made from left to right, lobbyist Quaid, who first seeks someone to screw in order to push a law through Congress and then, from the position of a juror and under the expedition Adam 84 motto "Above all, inconspicuously," helps to uncover the perpetrator, and Judge Mahoney, making you wonder if his arrogance is natural or if he’s irritated that the Washington rain is starting to seep into his shoes. A courtroom drama with a reasonable dose of tension, where you’ll find all the sins and virtues associated with the era of its creation. The fourth star is for Kamen's razor-sharp music. During the final chase, I felt like I was hearing some material stolen from The Usual Suspects. ()
It's not great, but it is decent. It's got the right retro vibe and a pretty good cast, and Liam Neeson almost never disapoints. It's good how the film tries to push the envelope and wants to surprise us so badly with the finale. The film may even succeed a bit, and I think it is worth your attention. ()
