The extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose playful, sometimes even psychedelic pictures helped to transform the public's perception of cats forever. Moving from the late 1800s through to the 1930s, we follow the incredible adventures of this inspiring, unsung hero, as he seeks to unlock the electrical mysteries of the world and, in so doing, to better understand his own life and the profound love he shared with his wife Emily Richardson (Claire Foy). Narrated by Olivia Colman with an all-star ensemble supporting cast including Andrea Riseborough, Toby Jones, Sharon Rooney, Taika Waititi, Adeel Akhtar, Sophia di Martino, Richard Ayoade, Nick Cave and many more. "You you have made it much, much better. You make the world... beautiful. And warm... And kind. And I just wanted to thank you for that before it was too late." - "I haven't made the world beautiful Louis. The world is beautiful. And you have helped me see that too." +++ For all his bad luck, Louis Wain was lucky enough to have experienced a great love. Despite his bleak and cruel fate, he managed to bring joy to other people with his cheerful pictures of cats. And the whole movie continues in a similar vein. The gloomy plot is artfully interspersed with humorously stylized, poetic and visually enchanting passages. Benedict Cumberbatch lends his natural charisma to the emotionally torn character of the eccentric artist, making the movie a truly extraordinary experience. The Electrical Life of Louis Wain fascinated me so much that I now have an incessant urge to get a kitten. (85%) ()
