Berlin's Ku'damm in 1963. The sombre 1950s are over. The colours are gaudier, fashion and music are more international and John F. Kennedy makes his historic visit. In the third season of KU'DAMM, the three Schöllack sisters, Monika, Helga and Eva, once again come up against the invisible social barriers that limit independent life choices for women. But they have become more courageous in their fight against these constraints and against the ever-present attempts by their mother Caterina to control them. The energy that erupted into the student protests in the late 1960s can already be felt here. (HBO Europe)

A wonderfully suspenseful, wonderfully intense conclusion to the family saga of a well-to-do German family in post-war West Berlin. Each of the Schöllack daughters struggles with her own demons and thus offers a certain insight into one segment of society. Monika sings in an international competition and repeatedly decides between partners, Helga, through the work of a Latin dance teacher, stops clinging to her mistakes from the 1950s and Eva finally has a chance to start again. It’s strong, and great. It’s also politically attractive, especially compared to the situation in Europe at the time.
