Verónica (Sandra Escacena) is a pretty, cheerful, highly capable 15-year-old, entrusted to look after her three younger siblings while her widowed mother (Ana Torrent) works long hours at a local tavern. One day, while the rest of her classmates assemble on the roof to behold a lunar eclipse, Verónica and her friends sneak into the bowels of their school with a Ouija board. By the end of their séance, the board has snapped in two, and Verónica has fallen unconscious. In the days that follow, it seems that whatever was released in that basement is following Verónica around. "Someone answered your call," warns a sagely old nun, "and now it walks with you." englanti Paco Plaza is good. He's a director who knows how to make a horror film, but for some reason I couldn't immerse myself in Veronica, because it didn't pull me in like REC did. Veronica is certainly not a bad film, but it feels like it's missing something, like it's too much of a safe ride that doesn't disappoint, but in my case, it also didn't impress me. This is still good craftsmanship, though. ()

englanti Paco Plaza, the director of REC, took a break from zombies and threw himself into exorcism, which is perhaps an even more hackneyed subject than zombies, and came up with absolutely nothing new. Technically, the film is on a decent level, but that can't be taken too much as a upside considering the director, it was was par for the course, otherwise it follows the classic template. For me, this kind of horror movie is very uninteresting, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, and since there are no scares and no gore, I found nothing to take away from it. The look of the demon is okay and the ending is quite action packed, so it's not an outright ordeal. A tolerable and watchable affair for fans of the genre, more of a waste of time for me. 55% ()

englanti After a long time, a horror movie again that will give you chills. Paco Plaza still knows how to create a terrifying atmosphere, and it's no problem for him. The visual and sound aspects work perfectly. Plaza knows how to play the right scary strings when he wants to scare you. The characters were also pleasantly chosen, and none of them bothered me significantly, logical actions as if it were a piece of cake. I had almost stopped hoping for the Spaniards as I didn't like their frequent time overlaps and complicated storylines. However, Verónica has a clearly defined storyline, so you won't get lost in the story. The ending is cliché and already well-known, but the execution is flawless and attractive. Moreover, when you find out at the end that the story was based on a true event and additionally see real photos of that apartment, it won't add to your peace of mind. ()
