“Now listen here, you mullet. Why don’t you just light your tampon and blow your box apart? Because it’s the only bang you’re ever gonna get, sweetheart!” Terence Stamp, as the elegant widow with a refined vocabulary, is the director of this bus, while Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce are just there for kicks. An eccentric, sometimes sad and sometimes vibrantly alive road movie full of lizards, extravagant costumes, and more or less significant transformations (as often happens on journeys with destinations). P.S.: You positively portray LGBT themes and suddenly find out you’re a sexist and a racist with prejudices against Filipinas. Can you really please everyone? ()
This wild road-movie with all colours and shades, featuring an unconventional trio that embarks on a journey through the Australian outback really amused and intrigued me in many ways. All three actors are wonderful in their roles, the inhospitable environment (visually and socially) of Australia is nicely portrayed, and the musical score (especially "Mamma Mia!") was just the icing on the cake. In short, a film that may not appeal to everyone, but I really enjoyed it. ()
I was blown away by this film. The characters here are so well acted and don't come off as caricatures at all - well, okay, Guy Pearce does at times - that it's easy to connect with them. It's really just a road movie, but it's visually and musically beautiful, plus it tries to tell a story, which is equally important. I was worried for nothing. ()
