Kate Hudson on the threshold of her entry into the rom-com genre and Matthew McConaughey at a time when he couldn't have his pick of films. In other words, a prime example of how several well-shot romantic scenes can be drowned in a flood of screaming attempts at humor. As a whole, it is unacceptable, bizarre, and logically flawed, and desperately full of plot holes. However, in individual aspects, it is at least a little decent. ()
I’ve heard that this romantic comedy is good. While watching it, I often wondered what exactly makes it so good. It’s not a bad film that should be condemned right away, but there are moments that are simply cheap and typical for the genre and target audience. The main role features a muscular actor with a washboard stomach, which he naturally shows off often, alongside a fairly attractive actress who doesn’t really know how to act that well, but she looks good on screen and happens to have a very famous mom. Although Kate Hudson doesn’t get naked here, she doesn’t need to; it’s enough for her to just act like it. In this case, you believe her character a bit more than in other instances. The plot of the film isn’t particularly great either. He wants to win a bet and keep a girl for ten days for work and a ball, while she needs to write an article on how to lose a guy in ten days. In short, she wants to drive him crazy, he clings to her tooth and nail, after eight days they realize they’re in love, on the tenth day he discovers the truth about how their relationship started, they get mad at each other, and in the end, they embrace. When it's possible to summarize the story in one sentence—true, it’s a compound sentence—and not miss anything significant, it’s a bit strange, but there’s no helping it. It’s a fairly simple comedy for a pleasant evening. I didn’t expect more, and I didn’t get more. ()
