This colourful story full of sadness, loneliness and the fear of death of the loved ones presents the fate of a circus family which emigrated for political reasons from Romania to the West - from the perspective of a five-year-old girl. The story is based on the autobiographic memoirs Why the Child Is Cooking in the Polenta by the critically acclaimed Romanian writer Aglaja Veteranyi. (Summer Film School)
