Europe is Far Away

Petru lives with his parents working in academic professions in a mountain village of Rumania. His father, the internationally renown scientist, is pursued by the Securitate, and the family has to leave the country upon trumped-up charges. They cross the Maros in a boat to Hungary, and they cross the border to Austria in the long-vehicle of a man-smuggler, who in the meantime steals the documents of the father. They find their way to a refugee-camp, from where adults are forced to return to Rumania. Petru runs away. After many adventures, he ends up in a village of Bavaria, in the home of a German couple. As his parents arrive in Germany with an official visa entitling them to settle down in Germany, their only remaining task is to find Petru. (official distributor synopsis)
