Plots(1)

As a last hurrah after college, friends Jeff, Karen, Paul, Marcy and Bert embark on a vacation deep into the mountains. With the top down and the music up, they drive to a remote cabin to enjoy their last days of decadence before entering the working world. Then somebody gets sick. Karen's skin starts to bubble and burn as something grows inside her, tunneling beneath her flesh. As the others debate about how to save her, they look at one another and realize that any one of them could also have it. What began as a struggle against the disease soon turns into a battle against friends, as the fear of contagion drives them to turn on each other. (official distributor synopsis)

English A totally botched attempt at a horror film, without a shred of atmosphere and suspense, with poorly written and poorly acted characters. The whole gang at the cottage acts like a bunch of idiots, with not a single one of them thinking of going to the neighbour's car to get out of the infected area as quickly as possible. They have one human life on their conscience, their infected friend is slowly dying and the infection is spreading fast, yet one of the girls feels the inevitable need to shave her legs or fuck her boyfriend as if nothing is wrong. Some scenes (and the entire second half of the film) take on surrealistic proportions due to their stupidity and utter chaos. And there is no point in commenting on the strange and repeatedly set ending. The one * is for trying to take the stale genre of teen horror in a slightly original way, otherwise, ignore it. ()

English Cabin Fever is a boring, unintentionally funny patchwork of clichés and twists borrowed from a dozen celebrated horror classics. The filmmakers, however, are utterly unable to take a detached view and just helplessly, amateurishly embarrass themselves. There’s not a hint of suspense or atmosphere. This is the weakest of the “kids go to the cabin” horror movies. Even the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre outshines this. ()

English My opinion about Eli Roth’s films is the exact opposite as the consensus. Cabin Fever is the one I liked the least – or rather, I almost didn’t like it at all. Those few disgusting scenes aren’t enough to pull the film out of the mud, while the almost parody ending buries it completely. ()

English I don't really like Eli Roth, just like the crude humor that is quite frequent in the movie. I don't understand why I'm preparing for a horror movie and end up getting a rather parodic horror comedy. I also have to point out the completely unprofessional acting performances and the words fuck, shit, and bitch in such a large extent are not pleasant. I mind those crazy movies where swear words replace a sensible flow of the script, which would be worth at least a little. Overall, I think Roth doesn't have horror filmmaking under his belt and therefore should stick to his comedies. Edit: I think I could eventually give those three stars. After what happened in the third part of this virus saga, I fondly remembered the first part. ()
