Biography

Born 1973, Barcelona, Gual obtains his degree in Graphic Design in 1997 while also studying Art History. In 1998 he attends the International Film and TV School in Cuba, developing his filmmaking and scriptwriting skills. Gual starts his career in advertising, working in Barcelona and New York, and in a few years he obtains the main awards of the industry in the Cannes, New York and FIAP festivals.

In 2001 he writes and directs his first feature film, SMOKING ROOM together with Julio Walawitz. After its premiere at Málaga Film Festival where it obtained three awards, SMOKING ROOM was selected for several international festivals, obtained and special jury mention in Karlovy Vary and was nominated for the European Discovery of the Year at the EFA Awards. In 2005 Gual wrote and directed REMAKE, which was selected for some of the main international film festivals such as Locarno, Montreal, Mar del Plata or San Sebastián.
