Teen comedy starring Emma Stone as Olive Penderghast, a perfect high school student whose reputation is put on the line. When Olive tells a white lie to her gay best friend, Brandon (Dan Byrd), about losing her virginity, events spiral out of her control. Olive begins to notice similarities between her life and that of Hester Prynne in Nathaniel Hawthorne's 'The Scarlet Letter', the book she is studying. When competitive student Marianne (Amanda Bynes) spreads rumours about Olive in order to further defame her character, Olive determines to make the best of the situation and use the rumours to her advantage. Definitely I am not the target audience, but I had no idea what I was getting into. I've been sick in bed for three days already, so I wanted to at least cheer up a bit with Emma Stone, who I know can definitely do that. I have seen a lot of inaccuracies, however, I don't think it's such a flop and the cast is quite decent. And I really did laugh out loud at a reference to Mark Twain. Just with that fever going down, Emma didn't help. ()
Easy A was a nice experience for me and a nice change for the afternoon. Actually, the biggest success for me was the brilliantly played role of Olive. Emma Stone alternates the looks of an innocent girl and a slut like on a treadmill and I believed her. Oh, and then there's the great soundtrack, a well chosen cast and a good number of funny scenes. The end result is a film worth (weaker, but still) 4*. All in all, one of the standout films of 2010 that entertained me like, for example, The Proposal did in 2009. ()
A very likable, entertaining film - especially thanks to Emma Stone and her parents played by Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson. Reasonable length, interesting plot, no big drama... It's a perfect film for relaxation, but the only thing it has in common with Juno (despite all the comparisons) is the treatment of the main character and the animation on the DVD menu. ()
Easy A doesn’t come around every day—a comedy that’s original, funny, and refreshingly clever, with an absolutely charming lead. I won’t lie, Emma Stone was incredible. She plays the average girl at an average high school, yet manages to break out of the usual stereotypes, giving us a fresh perspective on the classic American teen life. I had a blast watching Easy A. Not once did I cringe at any awkward or overdone moments, and, thankfully, there’s none of those overused, cringeworthy bedroom scenes that tend to drag down so many other teen comedies. This film proved that you can take a familiar setting and make it work brilliantly in a different way. Seriously, where do these writers come up with such great ideas? ()
TV fanatics, fast-talking beauties, free-thinking parents, and the goddess Emma Stone breaking through to the A-list for certain. Perhaps the plot is slightly contrived, but amidst the denied clichés, perfect soundtrack, or easily believable serious moments, it is clearly praiseworthy. And hopefully, over time, even a minor teenage classic. ()
