One of the BBC's most popular drama series of the 1970s, The Brothers followed the lives of the Hammond family. When their father dies, brothers Edward, Brian and David expect to inherit the family's road haulage company between them - but their father has also left his secretary an equal share... Led by their domineering mother, Mary Hammond (Jean Anderson), the Hammond brothers Edward (Glyn Owen), Brian (Richard Easton) and David (Robin Chadwick) return home for the reading of their father's will - only to learn that Robert's young secretary Jennifer Kingsley (Jennifer Wilson) has also been invited. Edward expects to inherit the family business: after all Brian, married to the scheming Anne (Hilary Tindall), is a well-paid accountant and David is a disinterested playboy with a glamorous girlfriend, Jill (Gabrielle Drake). But Edward is shocked to discover that not only does his father's will demand each brother owns twenty five per cent of the company, but the last quarter goes to Jennifer... Forced into alliances that no one wants, the three brothers and Jennifer must find a way to work together, whilst Mary wonders how many other skeletons are going to come tumbling out of the closet to destroy the family.
