Two brothers, the older Hans (Levin Liam) and the younger Fritzen (Patrick Lorenczat), become the prey in a former Prussian area, now belonging to the USSR after the war. Their dying mother advises them to escape to a friendly family in Latvia. They meet other orphaned German children on their distressing journey, children who were forced to grow up prematurely, fighting for their own lives. Rick Ostermann's feature debut is construed as a hungrily naturalist wandering through a wild, cruelly enchanting summer landscape. The children's quest for safety represents another contribution to a gradually growing series of films that present German protagonists as the victims of the World War II. (Febiofest)
