Lillian Gish plays a sensitive young woman who moves out west to live with her cousin and his family. When she is forced from their household, she accepts the marriage proposal of a nearby rancher. Life at the barren ranch is lonely; her new husband is crude (although kind) and he is often absent, leaving her alone with nothing but the incessant wind. (Cinequest Festival)

A perfectly shot silent movie. Timeless. Victor Sjöström manages to bring to life tangible intrusions of natural elements into an already rather inhospitable environment, and this creates a melancholic mood underlining the frustration of the main character. Lillian Gish is quite rightly regarded as a legend of silent movies, whose acting lifts the whole work to a more-than convincing performance for the audience. ()
