Bearable and fairly good fun for a direct-to-video film. The script, naturally, relies on running around the jungle and the repeated jump-scares with the mutated monkeys, which by the end made me feel that the film could have easily been 45 minutes long, without the story missing anything (which would be true), but the entertainment index never drops below a critical limit and that hour and a half doesn’t hurt. Modern American horror is in such poor shape that I have to appreciate even something par for the course as this. The make-up of the mutants is quite good (given the possibilities), but they are shown a bit too often. Overall, I can’t really recommend The Forgotten Ones, but if you come across it by chance, it won’t make you suffer much. ()
A survival flick with classically unlikeable characters, where instead of mountains and forests there is an island jungle. At least it's nice. Peter's a macho guy, so it's no surprise that the crew of his ship is shipwrecked at an island inhabited by a strange tribe that looks like a cross between a monkey and leopard. The make-up effects are pretty good, but the action is strangely chaotic. Liz should have actually died several times. At times I glimpsed an evocation of Predator, too bad the film didn't go in that direction. Possible spoilers: do you smash your radio when someone wants to contact you? And for the ending, I'd imagine a moment where Liz jumps into the sea, the boat on her back opens up and she drowns silently amongst the bubbles... Still, from the last shot, I reckon the idiot didn't stand much of a chance... ()
