English In a lighter moment (if he is lighted properly), Edward James Olmos looks like Al Pacino in a weaker moment. Unfortunately, that’s not enough for a high-quality mafia spectacle. I didn’t care about the characters and I definitely wasn’t dying to spend two hours with them. Not even when they started painfully dying. This film is surprising only in its unexpected and brutal violence. Though it’s based on actual events, the storyline is too reminiscent of many others and most of the “twists” can be seen coming far in advance. Other than a few nicely handled transitions between shots and longer time segments, nothing about the formalistic aspect stands out. The Mexicans deserve a better Godfather. 65% ()
