George Cukor got his start in theater before working at Paramount as a dialogue director and soon moving into directing. He later transferred to RKO, where he made his first hit films. He firmly established himself in the 1930s with films like David Copperfield (1935), Sylvia Scarlett (1935), The Women (1939), and The Philadelphia Story (1940). Recognized for his mastery of comedy, Cukor also directed the hit screen musicals A Star Is Born (1954) and My Fair Lady … (more)
