An adaptation of one of the brightest and most beautiful, albeit frightening stories about children in Swedish literature. The central character is six year-old Åke, a happy child in a happy, playful family. Åke lives in a world of love. Outside there are others who are not so secure and intent on harm---headmaster Godeman for example, who rules his household with military discipline and wields the cane all too easily in the dreadful superstition that corporal punishment leads to good upbringing.
