After a wretched childhood, orphaned Jane Eyre yearns for new experiences. She accepts a governess position at Thornfield Hall, where she tutors a lively French girl named Adele. She soon finds herself falling in love with the brooding master of the house - the passionate Mr. Rochester. Jane gradually wins his heart, but they must overcome the dark secrets of the past before they can find happiness. When Jane saves Rochester from an eerie fire, she begins to suspect that there are many mysteries behind the walls of Thornfield Hall. Her fears are confirmed when Rochester's secret past is revealed, destroying her chance for happiness, and forcing Jane to flee Thornfield. Die unglückliche Liebe von Jane Eyre hat zwei Trümpfe in der Hand. Toby Stephens und die kleine Georgia Henley als kleine Jane. Übrigens war dies das einzige Mal, dass Henley aus ihrer Erfahrung im Narnia-Zyklus Kapital schlagen konnte, und das ist sehr schade, denn sie war als Kind hinreißend. Stephens hingegen hat schon mehrfach bewiesen, dass ihm klassische Verfilmungen besser liegen als zum Beispiel der Jubiläums-Bond-Film. Onegin, Gatsby, Napoleon, Poirot und Marple boten ihm den idealen Raum für das dramatische Schauspiel. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass er auch als Rochester sehr lecker sein kann. Andererseits finde ich keine weiteren positiven Aspekte; diese BBC-Dramatisierung ist einfallslos, wenig fesselnd und Ruth Wilson in der Hauptrolle ist kaum angemessen. Ich werde wohl weiter suchen müssen, ich konnte bisher nur Zeffirelli akzeptieren.
