I get that Shakespeare was a genius at blending the past with the present, creating stories where that mix just worked beautifully. But I’m not so sure it works when you try to blend today's version of "past" and "present." Titus doesn’t hold back. You've got Harleys in the army, machine guns at the ready, and two rival factions cruising around in cars that look like they belong to Mussolini or Patton. And yet, all of this is happening in a Roman tale that, on its own, isn't bad at all. Anthony Hopkins shines, as always, and his final scene absolutely steals the show. But it’s tough to get through the 160-minute runtime and the wild mashup of ideas to reach that point. Still, the payoff is worth it. The ending is so bizarrely unique that it feels like a crime to only witness it once. It’s the peak of madness, and I honestly believe the director has to be a little bit of a genius herself to pull off something this chaotic and unexpected. ()
