I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Releasing More Copies
Harlan Ellison is widely known for two things: his literary works and his fiery, passionate misanthropy. Perhaps one of his most famous works, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, received a video game adaptation in the mid-90s. It follows the story of the last five humans on Earth and AM, a sadistic supercomputer that (or even who) tortures them to death before reviving them. Limited Run Games will release copies of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream from Ellison’s collection.
While the game adaptation deviates slightly from Harlan Ellison’s original work, it is by and large a faithful retelling. Each of the five protagonists has their own short story with their own surreal forms of torment courtesy of AM. They will go around their various locales collecting items and often interacting with the ghosts of their pasts. It’s a bleak adventure game with rays of hope buried deep beneath “perfecting” each character’s scenario. Ellison himself provides the voice of AM, with its infamous ranting speech about its seething hatred for humanity. Only through growing as people and pushing through their despair can Benny, Ellen, Gorrister, Nimdok, and Ted hope to overcome AM’s cruelty once and for all. Whether they can achieve an ending different from the novel is another story entirely.
The copies, previously uncirculated, will contain new Collector’s Edition items. Thus, quantities will be very limited for the PC and Mac Collector’s Editions. There’s a hard limit of one per customer, but if you’ve always wanted a physical copy of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Limited Run Games has come to save the day. Both the PC and Mac Collector’s Editions will run for $199.99. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream contains mature content and may not be suitable for all audiences. At time of writing, all PC Collector’s Editions had already sold out. Dread XP will inform readers in the event that there is a restock. Digital copies are naturally available on Steam and on GOG.
