Trippy FPS Project Downfall is coming to consoles starting with Switch in November

Pills, pistols, and politics.

RedDeer.Games has announced they’re handling the console publishing of MGP Studios and Solid9 Studios’ Project Downfall, a neon-drenched first-person shooter with shades of Hotline Miami. It’s coming to Switch in November, followed by Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S sometime later. Sorry, PlayStation fans.

Project Downfall is a psychedelic shooter that leans heavily on Hotline Miami while transplanting its gameplay to a first-person perspective. It’s heavily about slow-motion takedowns of groups of enemies, swapping weapons frequently, and throwing the ones you’re finished using to buy yourself some time. Your character is a wealthy businessman with a chip on their shoulder and a thirst for blood. There’s actually a plot buried beneath all the action involving global politics, but I’m fairly certain the protagonist cares little about that and just wants to perforate thugs.

I played Project Downfall this past January but only got through about an hour-and-a-half with it. I remember parting with it on bad terms, but for the life of me, I can’t remember why. I recall being a bit perturbed by how similar the narrative was to Hotline Miami, but I think I had an issue with the gameplay, as well. I just don’t remember what specifically.

If you do manage to make it through, there are 12 different endings for you to get depending on the choices you make throughout the game. Weirdly, the one new feature they tout for the console version is “a completely redesigned lighting system for Nintendo Switch.” Woo!

Project Downfall is currently available for PC. The Switch version will be released in November followed by Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S sometime after that.
