Welcome, Chronicler.
Take a seat. Your first assignment has arrived. But before we send you out into the Wilds on your first mission, a reminder of why we do what we do. We are the Mappa Mundi Institute, and the people of Evasu look to us to make sense of their world after a hundred years of chaos.
How do we do this, and what part is yours to play? With your training complete, the Wilds await. The old maps are useless, now. The old stories have been forgotten. Ours is a land that has lost its history. And your job? Your job is to write the new one.
But it is more than just people that await you beyond these walls.
Before the Flux came and cut us off from each other, this was a world teeming with life. Monsters, those majestic, enigmatic, fantastic conduits of Fate herself, roamed the Wilds, some giving blessings, others hunting; all living, all thriving. Go out into the world, Chronicler, and find them. Observe them. Document them.
Protect them.
You have sworn an oath to do no harm. These lands, and the people within them, are fragile. Your task is a dangerous one, no doubt, but to heal a place is to love it. This is your part to play.
Mappa Mundi Journey Deck Cards
Step out into the Wilds of a world that mirrors our own, beginning with the ten regions of Evasu, from Barbecia in the west to Zoumung in the east, The Kikal Rift in the north to Aishamet in the south.
Explore varied ecologies, and encounter monsters, creatures, and cultures divided by a century of ecological disaster. Study monsters and creatures like a naturalist, not like a hunter. Uncover behaviours unique to each being using your skills, talents, and special interactions without doing harm.
Engage in emergent gameplay using the Journey Deck. Travels through the Wilds are shaped by player actions. Narrators build a fresh deck each and every chapter, reflecting the information and intelligence players have (or haven’t) uncovered.
Shape the world as you experience it through collaborative storytelling between Narrator and Chroniclers. Write the story of this place, mapping the lands you pass through and telling the stories of people and monsters you meet along the way.
Experience a different kind of TTRPG gameplay: solve problems through Traversal, Exploration, Deduction, and Observation rather than through combat.

PDF Character and Chronicle sheets. Bring your Chronicler to life, record their experiences and development, and write yourstory as you experience it.
Crowdfunding backers will also receive a free PDF – Chronicles of the Wilds – that includes at least three prewritten Mappa Mundi adventures, excellent as a starting point for new Chroniclers and Narrators or for those looking to jump right into a new region.

The four Mappa Mundi Character Licences. From left to right: Archivist, Diviner, Fixer, and Guardian. Chroniclers begin their journey with a Starting Licence, making use of Skill Paths to learn new skills and move towards gaining Specialisations. Chroniclers may use the Skill Paths from any Licence, working towards becoming a multi-Licence expert and receiving an Endorsement in return.
