Xiangli Yao Overview

In Wuthering Waves, Xiangli Yao is a 5-Stars Electro character and uses Gauntlet during the fight.

In a normal state, Xiangli Yao’s Forte Circuit energy is called “Capacity,” with a maximum limit of 100 points, primarily obtained through Resonance Skill and Basic Attack. When “Capacity” reaches 100, Xiangli Yao’s RS (Resonance Skill) will be enhanced, doubling its damage. When used, he leaps into the air, and if he uses Basic Attack mid-air, it triggers an enhanced Mid-Air Attack.

When Xiangli Yao uses Resonance Liberation, it deals massive damage and grants him 3 “Hypercubes.” The Forte Circuit then transforms into “Performance Capacity”, with a limit of 5 points. His RS is enhanced into another form, where each use of the enhanced RS in the Liberation state consumes one “Hypercube.” After consuming all 3 Hypercubes, he exits the Liberation state. When using the enhanced RS, he can also follow up with an enhanced Mid-Air Attack. “Performance Capacity” can be generated by using enhanced RS in the Liberation state (2 points), enhanced Mid-Air Attack (3 points), and the 3-stage enhanced Basic Attack in the Liberation state (a total of 5 points). When “Performance Capacity” reaches 5 points, the ultimate enhanced RS can be used.

Pros

  • When using Liberation and the ultimate enhanced Resonance Skill, a zone is created that slows down enemy actions, increasing Xiangli Yao’s survival rate.
  • It’s free.

Cons

  • Damage output is not outstanding when comparing with other limited 5-star Main DPS

Xiangli Yao Mechanism

Forte Circuit in Normal State – “Capacity”
Xiangli Yao’s Forte Circuit in the Normal State is called “Capacity,” with a maximum of 100 points. “Capacity” can be gained through hitting targets with Basic Attack and Resonance Skill. A full set of Basic Attack can generate a total of 75 “Capacity”, while using Resonance Skill: Deduction grants 40 points of “Capacity”, with a cooldown of only 5 seconds. Therefore, using Resonance Skill: Deduction is the most efficient way to obtain “Capacity.”

When “Capacity” is full, Xiangli Yao’s RS (Resonance Skill) is replaced by Resonance Skill: Decipher.
Upon using Resonance Skill: Decipher, Xiangli Yao leaps forward toward the enemy, and pressing the Basic Attack key at that moment triggers the Mid-Air Attack – Revamp. However, be aware that if you switch characters after using Resonance Skill: Decipher and then switch back to Xiangli Yao, you will not be able to use the Mid-Air Attack – Revamp.

To fully charge 100 points of passive energy, you might need a combination of Basic Attacks and Resonance Skill: Deduction. However, the time cost of doing so far outweighs the damage benefits. Therefore, the correct approach is to charge only by using Resonance Skill: Deduction.

Resonance Liberation State – “Intuition”
After Xiangli Yao uses Resonance Liberation, it deals considerable damage and grants him 3 “Hypercubes” that rotate around him. In the “Intuition” state, RS (Resonance Skill) is replaced by Resonance Skill: Divergence. Forte Circuit changes to “Performance Capacity” with a limit of 5 points. When it is fully charged, Resonance Skill: Divergence is replaced by Resonance Skill: Law of Reigns. Each time you use Resonance Skill: Law of Reigns, one “Hypercube” is consumed, and after all are consumed, the “Intuition” state ends.

When casting Resonance Liberation and Resonance Skill: Law of Reigns, a time-slowing effect is applied to enemies within a certain range, providing Xiangli Yao with a safe environment for damage output.

Xiangli Yao’s various Resonance Skills do not share cooldowns, meaning that regardless of whether you’ve used a Resonance Skill before, once Resonance Liberation is activated, you can immediately use Resonance Skill: Divergence.

Forte Circuit during “Intuition” state – “Performance Capacity”
“Performance Capacity” has a limit of 5 points, and there are two ways to obtain it:

  1. Use Resonance Skill: Divergence (2 points) followed by Mid-Air Attack – Revamp (3 points of Performance Capacity).
  2. Perform a full set of Basic Attacks in the “Intuition” state, consisting of 3 stages, which grants 1+2+2 points, exactly filling 5 points of “Performance Capacity”.

Intro Skill

Xiangli Yao’s main damage comes from Resonance Liberation damage and the enhanced RS damage and enhanced Basic Attack damage from his Forte Circuit. Since the multipliers for both are quite similar, it’s recommended to level up both skills evenly. After that, prioritize upgrading his Resonance Skill. The damage from Basic Attacks and Intro Skill is minimal, so consider upgrading them last.

Suggested Resonance Chain

Sequence 1
Sequence 2
Sequence 3
Sequence 4
Sequence 5
Sequence 6

S1
The amazing part is that the 6 “Convolution Matrices” attacking targets have additional visual and sound effects. The overall improvement is average, and players should prioritize pulling for the Signature Weapon before pulling for S1.

S2
Increases Crit Damage. This buff is almost permanent, providing an 11.5% boost.

S3
This is an enhancement in the damage increase multiplier. After using Liberation, the 5 enhanced Resonance Skill hits fully benefit from it. However, the boost is not as high as expected, around 12.6%.

S4
Grants Xiangli Yao support capabilities, but this Resonance Liberation boost is not very versatile.

S5
In actual combat, the 3 damages of Xiangli Yao’s Outro Skill may not always be fully executed. If you intentionally try to land all three hits, it could have negative effect on the team’s pace. Therefore, I considered both 1-hit (19.3%) and 3-hits (22.4%) when evaluating S5’s performance.

S6
This multiplier increase is based on the boost from S1, meaning that the 6 extra hits from S1 also benefit from S6’s effect, resulting in a gain of about 26.2%.

Pulling recommendations
S0R0 is recommended. If you want to strengthen further, prioritize pulling for the Signature Weapon first.

Xiangli Yao DPS Echo Skill Priority

Void Thunder” is the best Echo set. Although “Lingering Tunes” is only 3% weaker than “Void Thunder,” since you’re farming Echo anyway, it’s definitely best to use “Void Thunder.”

For the Main Echo, the first choice is Tempest Mephis, followed by Thundering Mephis. There’s not much difference between the two, so just pick the one with better sub stats.

Xiangli Yao Echo Stats Priority

Sub Stats

Energy Regen(25%) > CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG > ATK% > Resonance Liberation DMG > ATK

For main stats, the recommended Echo with a cost of 3 is Electro DMG with ATK% or Double Electro DMG. The former has about 1.5% higher damage than the latter, so it’s better to choose based on sub stats. Energy Regen requirement varies depending on the Main Echo and team composition, but having around 125% in the character interface should be enough.

For sub stats, after meeting the Energy Regen requirement, prioritize Crit Rate or Crit Damage. The second priority is ATK%, and since Xiangli Yao’s Liberation-type damage makes up a large portion of the total damage, the third priority sub stat is Resonance Liberation Damage Bonus.

Xiangli Yao’s Signature Weapon, “Verity’s Handle,” is tailor-made for him, providing a significant Liberation damage boost, its performance is about 17% higher than the permanent 5-Star Gauntlet “Abyss Surges.” However, because it is very specific, it may not be suitable for future characters (those who frequently use RS and rely heavily on Liberation damage). So, only consider it if you really like the character Xiangli Yao.

As for 4-Star weapons, the recommended option is the Battle Pass weapon “Stonard.” At R5, “Stonard” has similar damage output to “Abyss Surges”. As for “Hollow Mirage,” this considers the theoretical value assuming the buffs don’t lose stacks. The actual performance in practice will be worse.

Xiangli Yao Team Comp

Xiangli Yao Best Team 1

Main DPS – Xiangli Yao

Xiangli Yao’s main damage comes from Resonance Liberation damage, as well as the enhanced RS damage and enhanced Basic Attack damage from his Forte Circuit, with most of it being Liberation damage.

Sub DPS – Yinlin

Yinlin can provide teammates with a 20% Electro DMG Deepen and a 25% Resonance Liberation DMG Deepen, making her practically made for Xiangli Yao and his best support character.

Healer – Verina/Baizhi

Verina’s healing abilities and Concerto Energy acquisition abilities are both greater than Baizhi’s, making her the preferred healer character. Verina’s Inherent Skill provides a one-time death immunity effect. Baizhi also has a similar effect that is even better, but it requires unlocking at Sequence 5.

Verina’s healing amount is based on her ATK, so Verina has a certain degree of damage output. If you build it well, her damage should not be underestimated.

Verina’s Inherent Skill can provide a 20% attack buff to the entire team, while Baizhi can only provide a 15% attack buff to a single character.

Calcharo

Calcharo primarily uses the enhanced Basic Attack and enhanced Forte Circuit after using Resonance Liberation for damage output. In the series of damage output after using Resonance Liberation, the damage ratio between Resonance Liberation and Basic Attack is approximately 2.2:1. Additionally, the Resonance Skill can be released at intervals, allowing full enjoyment of the permanent five-star weapon’s effects.

After using Resonance Liberation, Calcharo gains a new Basic Attack model. The multiplier for this attack is related to the level of Resonance Liberation, but the main proportion of his damage comes from the “Death Messenger” in Forte Circuit. Resonance Skill can be used during the Liberation period to interrupt Basic Attack combos, quickly generate Forte Circuit Energy, and trigger “Death Messenger”. The main components of his damage output consist of these three elements.

Encore

mong the permanent 5-star Fusion DPS characters, Encore enters an enhanced state and changes attack mode after activating Resonance Liberation. The main source of Encore’s damage comes from Basic Attacks after activating Resonance Liberation, not the Forte Circuit. Additionally, the cooldowns for Encore’s regular Resonance Skill and the enhanced Resonance Skill during Resonance Liberation are independent of each other.

In Encore’s damage output after activating Resonance Liberation, Basic Attack damage accounts for nearly 70%. Choosing Sanhua as a teammate can maximize her damage potential.

Sanhua

Although Sanhua has burst capabilities, the overall damage is not high. In Sanhua’s output cycle, Resonance Skill damage and Resonance Liberation account for approximately 51% and 41%, respectively.

Although Resonance Skill damage is slightly higher, there is a risk of missing in actual combat. Sanhua has a unique Forte Circuit trigger mechanism similar to rhythm games, and hitting enemies can cause a slight time-stopping effect.

Sanhua has the fastest Concerto Energy and Resonance Energy acquisition efficiency in the game, making it the most versatile and best-feeling support in the current version. After using the Intro Skill, Sanhua only needs 3 seconds to fully charge Concerto Energy and trigger QTE, activating the Main DPS for output. Our team composition recommendations for various characters also show Sanhua’s high versatility.
