Andy Hurley

Andrew John Hurley (born May 31, 1980) is an American musician and drummer, most well-known as a member of the Chicago-based rock band Fall Out Boy. Prior to Fall Out Boy, Hurley played in several different bands. He is currently the drummer in the heavy metal supergroup The Damned Things with Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman and super man Keith Buckley. He joined Fall Out Boy as the full-time drummer in 2003 where he started on the album, Take This to Your Grave and has been in the band since.

Hurley is currently endorsed by C&C Custom drums, Sabian cymbals and Vic Firth drumsticks.

Early life

Hurley was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He was brought up by his mother, who worked as a nurse; his father died when he was five.[1] Hurley attended Menomonee Falls High School and played saxophone in the band. (A very influential person in Hurley's music beginnings was John Woger, the band director at Menomonee Falls High School.) After high school, he attended University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, double-majoring in anthropology and history.[2] He identifies himself as an anarcho-primitivist, explaining that this means he believes that humans are supposed to live the way they lived prior to 10,000 years ago.[3] When confronted about this in the February 2007 issue of Alternative Press, he said that his career contradicted his beliefs, but at the same time, he had to make a living. Hurley is also vegan and straight edge.[1]

Andy Hurley's house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was featured in an episode of MTV Cribs. He also loves comic books and he still currently holds his first drum set from C&C Custom Drums along with his very own custom drumsticks from Vic Firth.

Musical career

Hurley joined Fall Out Boy in 2003 after their debut album Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. Fall Out Boy is the fourth band Andy has been in with Pete Wentz.

Hurley was also in Racetraitor, Killtheslavemaster, Project Rocket, xFor Death or Gloryx, The Kill Pill, and Arma Angelus.[1] In 1999, he was a guest drummer on Vegan Reich's "Jihad" EP.[4] Hurley also drummed in the hardcore metal band The Burning Empires, before starting The Damned Things.

Hurley has a record label, Fuck City, which has released music by Misery Signals, Peregrine (led by anarcho-primitivist writer Kevin Tucker), and Auryn.[5][6]

Hurley is currently the drummer of the heavy metal band, The Damned Things which features members of Anthrax, Fall Out Boy and Every Time I Die.
