For shootings that have injuries or deaths that are not gunshots
When a shooting has documented injuries that are a result of the attack(s) but are not caused by a gunshot, then they shall be included in a note that distinguishes the number of gunshot injuries or deaths from the number of other injuries or deaths caused by the incident in the appropriate column of the list. These other dead or injured should not be included in the overall total. A big reason for this? Imagine someone fires a shot into the air, and consequently, as a reaction, four people fall down and scrape their knees--yes they've been injured as the result of a shooting but it would be preposterous to call the event a mass shooting since no one was even shot--even though four people were injured as a result of said shooting. So, therefore this list only includes gunshot victims in its totals.
Thus far, there are the 04/17 Pittsburgh, PA, 04/16 Columbia, SC, 04/12 New York City, NY, and 03/17 Fort Lauderdale, FL shootings that have this distinction in the article. I've seen some issues over the numbers being changed around, but please only include gunshot victims in these totals, and don't try to quietly change the numbers around as the days go on. - Sounds like a good idea. Add a note just like when the shooter(s) gets injured/killed. TomCat4680 (talk) 00:29, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
Inclusion of Terrorist attacks
The Mass Shooting article mentions that terrorist attacks are usually not included in mass shooting statistics. However, terrorist attacks such as the recent Buffalo shooting have been included in this list. What is our criteria for a mass shooting, and does it include terrorist attacks?
Flameoguy (talk) 21:30, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- Terrorist attacks are for religious or political reasons. This guy was just a racist conspiracy theorist. TomCat4680 (talk) 21:35, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- If four or more people were shot then its a mass shooting regardless of the motivation of the shooter.Yousef Raz (talk)

Ethnicity
Ethnicity of the shooters would be something I would like to know 2601:203:400:3BF0:4C72:6592:D9EC:1F73 (talk) 17:46, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Why? I can only imagine ethnicity being noted of the victims or shooter if ethnicity is a motivation for an attack. RaskBunzzz (talk) 18:03, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah seems irrelevant. TomCat4680 (talk) 21:25, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Table sorting
I don't know how to do it, but can someone fix the sorting feature on the date column? When clicking on it to sport by date, it does it alphabetically, by name of month. Can someone make it so that said column sorts chornologically?Jdjd021 (talk) 10:14, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
Add Row Number and Running Count
Could a column for each row number be added and a running count? Thank you 98.11.252.45 (talk) 19:49, 15 June 2022 (UTC) The last row number would also be the running row count. For example: Row Number 1 2 3 .... 222
"Mother Jones" is hardly a credible source of information
Its a far-left, commie propaganda site. Whats next? Alex Jones and Info Wars as wiki sources??
93.206.48.78 (talk) 01:37, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- @93.206.48.78: Please refer to this nifty essay that helps keep track of source reliability: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources.
- While yes, it is consensus that Mother Jones is (somewhat) reliable enough for wikipedia, the general policy is to take the citations with a grain of salt/only use it for attributed quotes (If not then assess on a case-by-case basis). For this page, however, Mother Jones is used for a rather banal definition of the term "mass shooting", a definition I doubt the general public would find contention with. Plus, only 1 citations out of 328 is from Mother Jones, and its the bloody definition's citation.
- I fail to see the concern and no, Info Wars isn't going to be allowed any time soon, hell, Mother Jones is barely allowed as is. Just please look into the issue before trying to stir up anything next time.

Denver PD in LoDo
Depending on how many individuals were hit by direct police fire vs. bullet shrapnel, the Denver Police Department may have committed the legal definition of a mass shooting on Sunday[1], injuring 5 bystanders in the process of detaining a purportedly armed suspect (who was shot, but who didn't discharge his weapon during the shooting - it's disputed if he even had a gun). Assuming at least 4 of the 6 people shot were hit directly by bullets, this would qualify for inclusion on this list were it any other setting - but do we apply the same standards when law enforcement officers are the ones pulling the trigger (and are the only ones shooting, without return fire from the suspect)?
