And yet they all said "8." I also assumed, probably along with thousands of others, that the chain was called "8 Days Inn," and then later changed to "Days Inn." I never questioned this assumption. "8 Days Inn"

An unsourced statement in the article reads:

| The original name of the chain was "8 Days Inn" with a large number "8" in the sunburst area of the marquee sign.

I'm certain this is inaccurate -- This illustration shows that that 'large number "8"' was an advertisement of the room rate, not part of the name of the chain.

It might be interesting to look up phone books from the 1970s and see if any list "8 Days Inn" as opposed to "Days Inn."[reply]
