The Marikina Science High School (Tagalog: Mataas na Paaralang Pang-Agham ng Marikina), known as MSHS or MariSci, is a public science high school (a high school using the Special Science Curriculum) located at Mayor Juan Chanyungco Street, Sta. Elena, Marikina City. It was established in 2001.
The school has been recognized for its manageable and small number of students. The City Government of Marikina wanted the school to house more students and so, when the SY 2005-2006 started, at least 700 students entered the newly constructed MariSci Annex at Concepcion Uno.[1] .
History
In 1990, a school called Leogardo Victorino Memorial High School was founded in Chanyungco St., Sta. Elena, Marikina, Rizal in honor of Leogardo Victorino, a former councillor in the town of Marikina.
After the town of Marikina became a city, the Leogardo Victorino Memorial High School became an institutional school and was renamed as Marikina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). In 2001, Marikina Science High School broke from Marikina Institute of Science and Technology.. By the power of R.A. 9289, MIST's college sector was renamed as Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) but the MPC sector can still eat at the MariSci Canteen while MariSci students can eat at the MPC canteen and vice versa.
The former principal, Mr. Lauro Z. de Guzman is now promoted to become Marikina City's DepEd District 2 Supervisor leaving the school's officer in charge to be the current leader.
Campuses
Marikina Science High School used to have only one campus, located at Mayor Juan Chanyungco Street, Brgy. Sta. Elena, Marikina City near the Marikina City Hall. In 2004, the school opened another campus (now called Annex, and the other as Main) located at Panama Street, Greenheights Subdivision, Brgy. Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.
First Year students had their classes at MSHS Annex and the higher years had their classes at the Main Campus, until 2007. Freshmen and Seniors are at the Annex and the Sophomores and the Juniors are at the Main Campus.
In the Main campus is the Principal's Office, the Registrar's Office and the Guidance Counselor's Office. There is a library, a Chemistry Laboratory, a Biology Laboratory, three computer laboratories, a canteen, a school clinic, the Main faculty room, the MAPEH room, the SLK room, 17 classrooms and the Electronic Learning Resource Center. The e-LRC has 19 internet-connected computers. In the Annex campus there is a third computer laboratory and the Biology lab. Some discussions on certain subject use the e-LRC for their powerpoint presentations. In the Annex Campus is the third computer laboratory and the new Biology lab beside the canteen.
