Knoxville West High School (also known as West High School) is a Professional Development school in the Knox County school district located at 3300 Sutherland Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. The school's current population is about 1500 and continues to grow every year with feeder schools such as Bearden Middle, Northwest Middle, and Holston Middle. With the winning school colors of red and blue, the West High Rebels (including new principal Mr. Greg Roach) and mascot Running Rebel "Rowdy" lead many sports teams to victory in their district. One of the most recent accomplishments of West High is the honor of being ranked among the nation's top 1200 high schools by Newsweek. West High has also recently received the "Keep Knoxville Beautiful" award from Knoxville's mayor in 2007.

School History

West High School opened its doors in 1951 with the closing of Knoxville High School. Along with West opened three more high schools: East (now known as Austin-East), South (now known as South-Doyle), and Fulton. Since its opening West has endured many renovations and additions, the most recent occurring in 2005.

To provide opportunities for students to reach their potential through programs that develop the total well being of each individual.

Sports and Clubs

West High has a proud tradition of success in many different sports and club competitions. Currently, WHS students have the opportunity to participate in the following sports: Football, Soccer, Rugby, Tennis, Track, Cheerleading, Wrestling, and Golf.

In addition to WHS's many sport teams, the school also offers the following clubs/organizations: Academic Team, Art Club, Aspire, Band, DECA, Ecology Club, FCCLA, FCA, Foreign Language Club, FBLA, Gay Straight Alliance, Interfaith Club, Junior Classical League, Key Club, Mock Trial, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, NJROTC Drill Team, PLUS, Poetry Club, Step Team, Student Council, Young Life, Youth Legislature, Y-Teens.
