The Beckoners is an all too real reflection of the hierarchical society in high school. Zoe is one of the many students forced to align with the tactics and humiliation put on by the lead bully of the small-town school, Bec. She is forced to make the not so simple decision: bully or be bullied.
Zoe slowly falls into pits of morass, as she follows along with the Beckoners and their love of publicly humiliating others. “You think Zoe gives a s*** what I do to you?” Lindsay leaned over so she was looking straight down at Dog’s dandruffy head. “You think anyone does?”
She is accepted by the group but eventually, through the light of her other friends and herself, sees through the shallow and malicious ways of the hateful Girls. Zoe soon realizes the hard way, that once you’re a Beckoner, it’s not easy getting out.
